Rabas: Rabas - Favourite for Sunday lunch!

by timtregenza

Many bars in the area of Rabas (squid rings in batter) on a sunday lunchtime. This racion to share can vary from the "out of the freezer and into the microwave" variety, to the freshly prepared when it is absolutely delicious. Also available may be txopitos (chopped up bits of squid/octopus) cooked in a similar way which are also very good. (N.B. sometimes the terms are used interchangeably).Best thing to do is look for someone else eating the stuff. If they are, and it looks decent, go for it!

Krunch: Krunch - Fastish food

by timtregenza

Krunch sells itself as "high cuisine in bread" (it does not translate well!)It is a franchise of cafes in the Basque Country offering a range of fillings in its sandwiches. There is a restaurant in Bilbao (Iparaguirre) and Las Arenas (close to Areeta metro). They can be handy for a quick bite - arguable better than Bocatta and Pans & co. but despite the claims, hardly haute cuisine.

Restaurante Guitiko Jatetxea: Regional Specialties Can't Miss

by Radiomom

This was about the only restaurant open in town our first night in Lekeitio -- but as we climbed the stairs to the bright and simple dining room, busy with local patrons, we figured we'd made a good choice. There was a 16 euro menu which included a bottle of house wine (see 2nd pic) so we decided to try a rosado as it went so well with seafood in St Jean de Luz. The starter was a specialty in Basque country -- "fish soup." You won't go wrong on your main course if you pick anything with tuna or dorado.

Meson Arropain: Elegant Seafood

by Radiomom

On a Sunday night, we were unsure what might be open so we asked the helpful woman at the desk at Hotel Zubieta, and she said this was her favorite place in town. It isn't in the village, but just a bit down the road from the Hotel, so we figured to give it a try. What a lovely place it was. The menu was intriguing, and we were pleased to have decided to try it. It WAS much more expensive than the previous night's spot, but well worth it as the service and the food was excellent. With the sea right outside the door, we enjoyed tuna, dorado and hake, as well as another version of Basque fish soup. My entree of Tuna was gorgeous and delicious. (See second pic)

Artxanda and Jokin restaurants: Fresh fish cooked by some of Biscays best!

by happy-travels

Fresh fish caught locally and cooked by Basques (they make the best chefs on the Iberian peninsula). Tasty hearty food with not a hint of GM. First class food on a second class budget. The price is for 3 courses with wine.
