Most street mimes have boring repertoires. They usually perch on a ladder six feet above passers-by, wearing a ridiculous costume of a Roman god, waiting for someone to shout out, “Oh look, there’s Julius Cesar standing at the corner!” Some mimes think they can perform magic so at the sound of the coins falling into the hat, they theatrically bring out from behind a bouquet of fake flowers as if it is a treasure to behold. Some mimes go a different route with their bizarre acts, like beating their heads on the hard sidewalk or making menacing gestures toward the benevolence. Most of the good, bad, and ugly mimes have one thing in common: bad paint job and bad colouring. Show me a mime with good face paint in good colours and I will show you an unemployed make-up artist. Now that I have made my opinion of street mimes audible, let me tell you about a great mime we saw in La Parte Vieja. She was attractive as a mime and as a young woman. She wore not a costume but a real outfit comprised of a long sleeved blouse with pleated yoke under a quilted-and-laced-over vest, and a trimmed apron over a full skirt. She wore gloves as a good fruit vendor would, and the handkerchief tied over her hair added to the authenticity. Her entire outfit was painted in well-mixed colours of silver and pearly grey. At her feet was two baskets of apples, one was placed on a stool against which a stuffed wooly teddy bear leaned. All of her poses were classic. In one pose, her right hand reached up holding an apple while the left hand lightly lifted the skirt in a half curtsy. In another pose, both hands held the apples as if they were her whole universe and she must be gentle about them. Yet in another, the apples were a pair of boxing gloves and she a boxer moving in slow motion. At all time, there was a faint smile on her lips and a trace of mischief in her eyes; she looked less of a mime than a ballerina gracefully allowing passers-by to witness her solo performance. That mime was in a league of her own. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Sleeping On The Beach | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Perfect vacation spots are always in high demand and San Sebastián is one of the spots to seek after. This small town offers a calm bay and vast beaches, the clear blue and turquoise water, the beautiful La Parte Vieja, the nearly perfect Centro, the colourful festivals, and the abundance nightlife activities. Those are the reasons why there are times during the year when almost all accommodations in town are booked solid. If you must be in San Sebastián during those times but cannot find a room that matches your budget, do not fret. There is an alternative way to hostels and pensions, one that may not sound too bad if you were young and carefree: sleeping on the beach. Although this is not a sure fire method and there is a law against turning the beach into a sleep away camp, the young people who have done this told me that no one has ever bothered them as long as they show respect to the public and the nature of the beach. What that means is no drinking, no eating, no clowning around, no music, no trash, and taking as little room as possible. In short, keep a very low profile. Leave a Comment

There are a lot of little villages near San Sebastian, not turistic, but really beautiful, that you can visit in a few time. One good exemple is "Hondarribia", close to the french border. The houses and the streets are really charmer. There's also exhibitions of paintings, and several culture acts. It's a village with culture life. If you go, you won't be disapointed. Si hi aneu, no us decepcionareu. Leave a Comment Website: http://www.hondarribia.com/
