The construction of the Agaete's Chapel de las Nieves was concluded in the second half of the 16th century by Francisco Palomares. This buiding is located in the Puerto de las Nieves, in a lightly populated fisherman's village. This chapel was their landmark. Their towers and an extension are masterpieces of last century, were being done during administration of D. Antonio de Armas. There is a Flemish triptych of the 16th century. It is a valuable masterpiece, The Triptych of Nuestra Sra. De las Nieves.

The location of this chapel, in the entrance of the village, do not answer an arbitrary feeling. As a Saint is identified with the Black Death, by all means, it is a custom to place them in Canary Islands chapels in the entrance of villages. Its construction is related to Mudejar tradition showed on masonry walls with a three slope roof and in the decoration of the coffered ceilling.

The characteristics of this sanctuary are cemented in its elevating proportions, its eclectic character, in the distribution of its front in three streets. Its sobriety and monumentality are distributed in three ships inside. The middle one is the widest.

The present day temple dates to 1874, which Uriquinaona bishop placed the first stone, replacing the primitive building destroyed on 28th June 1874 by a devastating fire.

Agaete is formed by a small port with a jetty and a small town centre within a mile. In this place you can take the Jet Ferry for a reasonable price. I took this Ferry to go to Sta. Cruz de Tenerife....
