Lanzarote is the cinderella of the Canaries when it comes to consumer goods. With the expected 500 cruise ships a year, there are many smart shops predicted for the future and building work has already begun.
The main street, Calle Leon y Castillo (called Calle Real by the locals) has many shops for clothes, shoes, homeware and accessories: Mango, Zara, Momu, Jaeger have a presence. Great shoe shops.
for homeware - Laura Ashley, Casa and Rocasa have outlets here. For cheap branded goods go to El Barato.
San Gines lagoon (The Charco) has cafe and tapas bars, located off the main shopping street around The church. Saturday until 1pm is the date of the fresh produce (organic too) and local artisans market,
And the long walkway along the seafront, resplendent with cafe bars, is also the location of the Wednesday market.
What to buy: El Mercadillo, is a small 2 storey market style shopping centre with a glass roofed central cafe/bar area and outside seating in Cale Real.

Arrecife - Pleasant in being ordinary

Arrecife is a "Spanish" town on an Island full of foreigners. It does not have too much to recommend it, but if you want something closer to the real Spain, then it may be worth a visit.
