Fond Memory

by seagoingJLW

While we were enjoying our cokes, people watching, we met a California blonde at the next table who was an exchange student. She asked to walk with us for a while, because the Spanish men constantly followed her and made comments when she walked alone.

If you go to Fuerteventura we went on a day excursion to Lanzarote to see the Timanfaya National park. This is a large volcanic landscape where there were volcanoes between 1730-1736 which devastated the area. The scenery here now is maginificent. Our tour guide took us up to the top of the mountain. It does get worrying as the road has hairpin bends and it really feels as if your coach is dangling off the edge!Quite scary. At the top there is a restaurant where they actually cook the steak on a pit using the geothermal heat from the volcano. You get to see steam shooting out of the ground too. We visited a beautiful place in Lanzarote called Jameos del Agua. This is a area of connecting underground grottos/caves at the foot of the Monte de la Corona Volcano (which erupted about 3000 years ago)When you get inside there is a pool of water and you take you shoes off and walk along the edge of it...

A trip to the moon on Tenerife!

by Bigs

Don´t miss a trip to the moon on Tenerife!Visit the Teide National Park! This vulcanic scenery is amazing! Be there early for a blue sky and empty roads! Around midday often clouds are build around the top of the Teide (Spain´s highest mountain by the way with 3718 meters),and the tourist buses will arrive as well.... The warmest 1st of January I ever had in my life with 26° Celsius!!!

The name says it all: in Grand Canary we find a miniature continent. This is not a gratuitous statement or a play with words. This circular island is special because it is enveloped in contrasts that make it unique. Some veteran travellers do not hesitate in proclaiming: “There is no country that has such a diversity of contrasting landscapes as this island”.We should not be surprised if we suddenly stumble upon arid areas, without any vegetation or water, while a little further we find mountains covered in tropical foliage. Our panoramic view of the scenery encompasses the sheer cliffs at the edges of the great expanses of sand, which invite us to take a dip at one of the beaches. But the contradictions do not end here, because near the precipitous river gorges we find valleys filled with banana trees. These contrasts also affect the climate and one is very likely to find postcards that...

Go to the top of the Island to Mirador del Rio. Look from the balcony outside the restaurant/snackbar to the Island of La Graciosa. It makes you wish the rest of the world was so peaceful. There is a small entrance charge but you are rewarded with a fantastic view. Too many things to mention but a restaurant in a Castle over looking the harbour wonderful meal fabulous setting and it was designed by Cesar Manrique. He designed Mirador del Rio and most of the charactor of the island is down to him.
