DanielF's General Tip

by DanielF

Driving a car through the island of Lanzarote. The moonlike landscapes of Lanzarote and its many vulcanoes will let you feel the heart of the Earth. Despite the touristic development, the island has remained relatively untouched, mainly due to the local artist Manrique. This picture shows a panoramic of the National Park Timanfaya. Tou can see more pictures in the travelogue.

Visit national parks. More than one third of the islands' surface is protected. Every one of them has something different to offer: from spectacular vulcanoes to extremely old rainforest, including the highest mountain in Spain, which is by the way also a vulcano. This huge variety of landscapes is captivating and interesting at any time of the year. There are four national parks in the Canary Islands:- Timanfaya in Lanzarote: a volcanic landscape. You will think you are out of this world.- Las Cañadas del Teide in Tenerife: a snow covered vulcano in the middle of a tropical island. There several roads that lead to the mountain and they all have excellent panoramic views.- Garajonay in La Gomera: the remains of a very ancient forest with lots of endemic plant species. They live on the water they get from the fog.- Caldera de Taburiente in La Palma: another vulcanic landscape with...

Enjoy the sun and relax. You'll miss it once you go back to the grey and cold crap, well, that's if you live somewhere cold and grey! Naked-old German people walking along the beach. I didn't feel so out of shape after that!!!.... ok, the beaches. reminded me of california (native)...

See the northern part of the island. The south side is better if you like drinks and party. In the north you have a more typical environment and more sight-seeing. 'La Playa de las Teresitas' and the 'Parque del Teide'.

Enjoy the white beaches. Jandia is the best place to go the beach is 25kms long. So many water sport possibities, surfing, wind surfing, katamaran, swimming, sunbaking need i say more?..... Walking along the beach at night watching the moon rise and feeling the strong winds, boy are they strong some nights! The moon seemed so big if i didn't know better i would have sworn the path it lit on the ocean led somewhere ;)

Go to the top of 'Mount Teide', its a dormant Volcano about 10,000 feet above sea level (if memory serves) and it is a truly amazing place to visit. Whenever I am in town, I have to go up there and enjoy the scenery. On a clear day, you can see most of the other Canary Islands. Taking a day cruise from ' Los Cristianos' to 'Costa Del Silencio' and on the way stopping to watch the Whales and Dolphins.

Take a hire car and do the grand tour of the island. It won't take long! You can take in most sights in 2-3 days. Lanzarote is barren and brown, there is limited vegetation or wildlife but the scenery is volcanic and very dramatic. The people are friendly and laid back. The main resorts are fairly commercialised now but the rest of the island retains it's charm. Sunset over El Golfo. Black rocks, green sulpherous pools and wild sea, amazing!

hire a car or scooter and travell all around the island and even through the middle. Top place for everything, but most of all watersports, jet skiing, para gliding, snorkling, water skiing, and about every other thing u can do in water.

by mhauptma73

The 1st thing you should see is the Roque nublo. It's a 82m high stone nearly in the middle of the islands. When the weather is clear you will see Tenerife (the neighbour island) with its Teide. You will have to walk 15-20 minutes up the montain and that's important. Due to that there usually not so many people over there :-))
