Fuerteventura is a relatively safe island, yet as with all major tourist destinations, there are always reports of crimes against unsuspecting tourists. Petty crime such as pick pocketing and bag snatching can occur in busy areas. Always be on your guard and look after your belongings. Never carry all of your valuables with you and never flash lots of money around in public. This is an invitation to thieves.

Be careful in the sea as the rips and currents can be very strong and large waves can appear from out the blue. If you like to go swimming out to sea for a distance keep looking back to the beach and focus on a certain point, like a building, rock, cetain scenary or people and make sure that the focus point is always in view and that you are not drifting to far left or right. If you get caught in a rip tide dont panic and dont try to swim against it back to the beach you can either swim to the left or to the right until you are out of the rip and then head back to shore.

As always you must take care near to the ocean. This day when the photograph was taken the seas were really rough, and came crashing up over the rocks. The following day the sea was like a mill pond, always swim only where it is permitted. Be safe not sorry.
Did I mention the sunblock?
Sorry, but I can't say it often enough - don't let the cooling wind trick you into thinking you're not burning in the sun. You probably are. The tomato-imitators sat next to me on the flight home had obviously been caught out.
I took fairly good precautions but, even at that, I did miss a little bit of skin on one calf and boy did that smart the next day!
Don't get stuck in the sand!
Okay, it's been said many times, and it's not life-threatening, but DO be careful if parking at the side of the road around the sand dunes area just south of Corralejo. It's remarkably easy to get stuck in the sand there. The recovery truck that cruises the area should be warning enough! I'm not sure what he charges but when I was there I heard it was around ý20.
Now, in spite of all warnings, I did manage to get stuck, and on my last day at that! It looked safe enough just to pop the wheels on what looked a solid enough piece of ground, but no, I should have paid more attention. How did I get out? With a plank of wood, my towel, and a couple of friendly Australian surfers! (Thank you to the Hitch-hiker's Guide & Ford Prefect for the towel tip!)

Car rentals - watch the jeeps !!!
Just a warning - the car rental jeeps get a lot of hammering.
They generally dont feel safe. With fast roads i'm not sure they are safey.
All the rental people have nice pictures - of safe looking cars but when the car arrives (after you've paid !), its not quite the same thing - hard to get your money back.
SEE THE CAR FIRST OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. !
But really, the beaches is thing on furtaventura so dont bother with a car - waste of money - we wish we did'nt bother. !
Don't Be Fooled By Its Beauty !
Please take extra spcial care when swimming. Although the sea looks beautiful and inviting it can also be a hidden dangerzone. Always keep an eye open when on lilos or even if you are on a peddlo, when entering the sea, always look back and find something as a guide like a red flag or a familiar face or structure, this way if you are swimming and DO happen to drift you can focus back onto that object and find your way back safely to your lounger. I found this out when on my lilo, I was just lying there and the next thing I looked up and was half way across the bay! It does'nt usually bother me as I'm a fairly strong swimmer, but even I had to paddle like mad to get back as the currents are EXTREMELY strong, so DON'T get caught out !
The flags are out.
Keep an eye on the beach flags, they are there to protect you from bad seas. The beaches around most resorts, seem not to bad, but get just outside of town, and up go the flags, there are reports of rips and bad undercurrents.
beware of the 2 guys
beware of these 2 guys
they are really bad people... all they do is sleep, surf, be in the van
Take care ! :-))
Don´t paste something in the bus stations....they will arrest you ;-))...ok, I´m exagerating, but seem to me quite funny this sign.
Sand in the side of the road
This is not a warning exactly, but take care with your rented car, if you decido to drive outside the line, you can break the cars engine

Calm But Deadly
This is how the sea looks by night but like I say, Don't be fooled, go skinny dipping or anything daft at night and you're more likely to end up in Lanzarote than having a laugh!
