    Rent-a-car in Puerto del Carmen

    by illudiumqh36 Written Jan 20, 2005

In Puerto del Carmen there are a lot of car rental. Most of them are cheaper than the most car rental in Europe.
Just have a look for some of them to find the cheapest or the one that more satisfy you.
Be careful, many times the ones that seems to be cheaper than other don't apply all the tax on the rate chart outside the office. So always ask for a complete service so you can better compare prices.
I suggest to rent a car because there are so many places to see and moreover because some of them can't be reached if you don't have one (i.e. Playa de Papagayo).

Buses are not very good on Lanzarote

    ANOTHER OF CEASAR MANRIQUES SCULPTURES

Buses are not a good way to get around.Locals mainly use the public bus service and it is mainly rural. The times are not very good,so you may have along wait..You are better off getting a taxi or hire car.Ferries run from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura and also to other Canary Islands. My mother done a day trip from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura and it cost £30.She thought it was ok but wished she had taken her car so she could of seen more of Fuerteventura than the port.

ITS JUST LIKE THE MOON IN SOME PLACES

Taxis have a green for hire light inside the windscreen
and a special SP licence plate.Cabs are cheap, good value. They are handy if you want to drink one night or dont want to hire a car but go out here and there.Ask a price before you get in.I found the taxis quite flash looking.Big Mercs etc.

    Car hire is cheap

100's OF BEACHES TO RELAX ON

I hired a car and it was good value. It cost £80 for a week.I found a car very handy indeed. You have to be at least 23 years old to hire a car.I found the small companies cheaper than the big companies. There are plenty of companies at the airport when you land. You have had to have had a driving licence for more than two years. There are no motorways on Lanzarote. The speedlimit is 90kph on main roads.Speed limits in towns are 60kph.You must wear your seatbelt at all times.
Its totally illegal to drink and drive and you may be thrown in jail.Petrol is cheaper than UK and make sure to fill up in resorts as there are no petrol stations away from big resorts and towns.

    Local Buses

    Local buses

The island has a very good bus system with modern clean buses and at a reasonable price. The buses stop frequently although I am not sure about how late they run. For example, if you are staying in Costa Teguise and want a night out in Puerto del Carmen then you would probably end up getting a taxi home. I believe that runs at about 25.00 euro.

    Car Rental

    Get out and explore

Car rental is quite cheap on the island and is a very good way of getting around and seeing the island. Petrol is very cheap and as the island is small it is a very economical mode of transport.

There are plenty of car hire companies on the island and they all offer similar rates.

A cheap way to go around the island

by shoparlika Updated Aug 3, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The best way to get around the island is by car. There are a lot of agencies: Hertz, Whizz, Rocio, Cabrera Medina and many others. I have rented a Daewoo Lanos from an Cabrera Medina office in Puerto del Carmen. Due to the fact that Lanzarote is a duty free island, the prices are very small. I have payed 104 Euro for 4 days and 25 Euro for the gas. In four days I could visit everything worth visiting.

    The address is:
    Calle Canastra,6 (PUERTO DEL CARMEN),

    Arrecife Airport

By airplane..Lanzarote has only one airport (Guacimeta) which lies between Arrecife (capital) and the popular town of Puerto del Carmen.
On the island itself by car is the best way; u can rent cars at Arrecife.
