Puerto de la Cruz is in the verdant north. The old town is very attractive with pretty buildings. See the botanical gardens, a longish walk uphill but well worth it- shady and cool with lots of greenery and colour.

When you want a nice day out for whole the family on the island, you have to visit the Loro Parque. It is famous for it´s parrots. But they have more then parrot shows. They also have a large penguin habitat, a wonderful dolphinshow, a tropical garden, a lot of gorilla´s and a lot more. Very, very nice!

In the village of Icod de los Vinos, in the north of the island, you can find a very strange tree. This ´El Drago´ is one of the many Dragon Trees of the Canary Islands. But this one is the most famous, the biggest and the oldest. El Drago is over 1.000 years old.
When you want to go into the trees parc you have to pay, but it is not necessary. From outside the parc you can see the tree much better.

When you are on Tenerife to enjoy the sun, you have to skip one day at the beach to visit the beauty of El Teide. A climb up to the top of this volcano will take a full day, but it is really wonderful. You see palmtrees, cactusses, deserts, wild animals and even snow in the summer. A tour of 40 km. to the top brings you in one day, into many different worlds!

After a day of intensive visit of the island, this is a great place to go ! A two hours and a half circuit starting in a big warm pool with water at a 34°C temperature, where you stay for +/- 20 minutes enjoying the water sprays. You'll be explained how to proceed by the staff member standing there. He follows you quite well and tell you when it is time to go to a different pool. The second step is to spend 10 minutes in the even warmer sea-water pool.
After a mineral water spray, you'll go to the Roman Terms and the Turkish Bath, always stay a few minutes inside and then jump in the cold water pool (which is really cold !!!),or try a bucket of cold water. Do the same with the sauna. After this, relax in the fruit thermal bath, a pool in which citrus fruits are floating all around you. Walk on the stones path to relax your feet, and end your circuit with the Scottish shower and the essential oils shower.
When you are dried and dressed, enjoy a fresh-pressed orange juice before going home !
The best time to go is in the evening. Quite expensive for non residents, 25 euros, but so relaxing ! A great experience, really !!
Open every day from 9 am till 10 pm

A walk through the Barranco del Infierno is unforgettable. Take a bottle of water and a cap in case the sun would shine too hard.
The street to get there is the steepest of Adeje…but it’s easier to park before that street, and walk up taking your time ;-)
Arriving at the starting point, you have to pay your entrance (3 euros) and then you receive a ticket indicating at what time you can start the walk. They try to avoid having to many people at the same time in the barranco. So wait for your turn at the terrace of Otello for example…
A narrow 8 km path will lead you up and down the “Hell’s Canyon”, and show you a vegetation much greener than what you would expect from Hell, actually ;-) The huge hills all around are very impressive and makes you feel so small !

Playa Las Teresitas is the most beautiful beach in Tenerife and it's not so crowded.
It's not natural, people brought here the sand from Sahara, so it's a yellow beach. There are different pretty ugly beach bars there which offer a great plate of food for a very reasonable price, like for example Kiosco El Ultimo.

It is a beautiful afascinanting natural black beach worth to visit for a view. Aproach is quite difficult, you have to drive 5 minutes in a terrible tiny street, so if you are not a great driver don't even try it. Then, when you arrive with the car, aproach directly to the beach is possible only by foot (forget high heels) through tiny stears.

In Santiago del Teide, you have the choice between two directions : one going to Garachico, and the other one to Masca.
The view all along the way is breathtaking : a REALLY winding road overviewing the valley and going through the natural park of Teno, deep ravines at 1000 m, green vegetation...quite amazing !
Stop at the view points to admire the landscape and the houses of Masca perched on the mountainside, but be careful, this road is one of the most dangerous of the island !
Once in Masca, you can have some refreshment in the little tavern, very easy to find, the village only counting a few houses :-) Don’t forget to order small things “para picar”, like cheese, ham, etc…
The little houses build with stones of the mountain make of Masca one of the most picturesque mountain villages of Tenerife.

Adeje is a small town in the mountains, close to Las Americas and Los Christianos, with very steep streets !
It is also where my little godson Théophile was baptized. So, I had the opportunity to visit the church, and discover this little town I would probably have skipped otherwise. It is not a very tourist spot, apart for the Barranco del Infierno, but sometimes if you look well, you find some nice things that are not always in the travelguides ;-) This side-street for example seemed real nice to me.
