expensive picture by sylvie-uk this picture has cost us quit a bit. we were going to Tiede national park and stopped the car at some point to admire the view for about 5 minutes. and silly us, thinking it s only 5 minutes and as there was not one soul around, we locked the car, left the bags in, and went by the edge of the cliff only to discover that 5 mn was enough for someone to break in the car and steal cash, cards, and phone. they actually relocked the car and left the bags in to try to buy some time in using the card. and i must say that the police was not very helpful. Very narrow roads by easyoar Some of the roads in Renerife are incredibly narrow. the worst example I saw was the road going to Masca, which had traffic flowing in both directions, but was only one cars width wide (it has little passing points occasionally). It also had numerous hairpin bends, so take care going around these! However even the motorways are pretty narrow. In particular, and in common with all Spanish motorways, the hard shoulder (the lane you pull off on to if you need to stop in an emergency) is a joke. It is only about two thirds of a cars width wide! Never try and change a tyre on one. Better still, just don't break down! Leave a Comment

Delayed at Tenerife South airport by easyoar You may well wish to familiarise yourself with this picture, becuase if you are flying out of Tenerife South airport, you may well get to see more of it that you wanted to! It seems almost obligatory there that most flights will be delayed by an hour or two. Make sure you take a book or puzzle book and some extra food and water. Also be ready for long slow check-in queues. One of the guys we saw checking people in was barely doing anything at all. As a result his queue barely moved. This might sound a bit off, but if there are at least two of you, you may wish to queue in separate lines to see which one moves fastest, as in our case one queue was going at about twice the speed. Bus To Santa Cruz by steventilly The TF1 motorway runs up the east coast of Tenerife linking the tourist hotspots of Las Americas with the capital Santa Cruz. Two busses make that trip, the non-stop 110 and the stopping bus the 111. What we didn't know (and nothing told us) was that the stopping bus stops not in the towns along the way, but on the motorway beside the exits for those towns. We took one of these busses to get to Candelaria and Guimar and we began to feel apprehensive when other people were getting on and off the bus in the middle of nowhere. Sure enough when we got to Candelaria we were flung off at the motorway exit and had to walk into town from there. This wasn't too bad as it wasn't too far, but Guimar was different, it was about 6km from the motorway. We ended up taking a taxi to Guimar from Candelaria as it was way too far to walk. We got another taxi back from Guimar to the motoray exit, where we waited for the bus. There is a button at the bus stops and you have to press it to light a sign on the motorway that tells the bus to stop! If you forget this the chances are the bus will just sail past, unaware that you are waiting for it!

An altogether dodgier meaning... by easyoar This is another one of my rather flippant warnings I'm afraid! This sign caught my eye whilst I was out in Tenerife. What it was originally intended to say was: "Wrestling Club of Punta Brava" Where Punta Brava is a place name and means something along the lines of Wild/Untamed Cape. However some joker has removed a letter resulting in a sign that now reads: "Wrestling Club of the Untamed Prostitutes" Which gives the place a rather different feel. This was just by the entrance to a big tourist attraction (Loro Parque), and there were some women outside handing out religious leaflets, I got a bit of a black look when I laughed and photographed the sign... Where ever you go along the sea front there are several African women offering hair braiding services, "have a look at my work, pretty, you have beautiful long hair" etc. There is no doubting that they do a really good job but be careful, agree a price first and then make sure that you stay in view of as many people as possible. My girlfriend Claire wanted hers done, we waited until the last day of the holiday to have it done and haggled the price down from €80 to €60.Claire started off on a bench on the sea front so I went to have a look in a few shopswhile waiting, luckily I came back at the right time as both Claire and the woman were walking away, Claire wasn`t sure what was happening so I asked the woman and she said an ambulance had come and the police were around. It turned out that Claire had spoken to someone else earlier on in the week about having it done, so she took offence to somebody else doing it. She took us up an alley way which aroused my suspicions but as we had paid upfront and only a little bit had been done then we carried on.For the next 2 hours I spent all the time looking around and being on edge for fear of being mugged again. As I said before she did a really good job but next time I will pay the extra and have it done in a shop in England before we go away as it really isn`t worth all the hassle. To add insult to the matter we were charged an extra €10 just for the rubber bands after she had finished, by this time we were just so tired and stressed that we wanted to get away so we didn`t argue and payed up. Beware if you have long hair, you will be hassled all holiday. Leave a Comment

Now just where did I leave my car??? by mazzap If you park where you shouldn't then be warned - your car WILL be towed away! I've seen it happen here many times! This car was in a designated bus stop area. They weren't particularly kind to the car whilst loading it onto the lorry either! Leave a Comment
