Gran Canaria is a walking paradise...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Gran Canaria is a walking paradise. We bought a guide from the English 'Sunflower Landscapes' to discover the most beautiful 'Barranco's' (valleys or canyons). There is one problem ! Most of these trips are one way,and to get your car on the end of the walking tour is not that easy, because when you drive these roads with an average of 16 curves in one kilometer, you understand that you spent a lot of time to get at the end.We mostly did a piece of the track ,just upon a beautiful picnicspot and then returned to our starting place. In the center around Tejeda there where a few round away walkings.See the pics in the travelogue and discover some unknown places.

Bed and breakfast in a (real) Pirate village
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a place known as the (ex) pirate village of Tenerife. It is the village of Masca. Here you can have a B & B loking over the supperb vallei of Masca. Real pure and untouched natural landscape. Unic in the world. And on top of it the price for a dubbel room for overnight is acceptabel. The place is held by a french lady who speaks fluwently spanish, english and german. Asking for Senora Jane Mineur, with the compliments of the Belgian botanist Leroy Albert

    Another pretty car trip
  • Tip Rating:
  • Another pretty car trip is the road from AYACATA to CRUZ de San ANTONIO and then on a gravel road steep downhill to MOGAN.For this gravel road you don't need a 4X4.It's a shame that I forgot my camera that day,and I have no pics of this road and our visit to the romantic (and touristic) place of PUERTO DE MOGAN.

  • Tip Rating:
  • If you like to drive around on the island, there is one road you should'n miss at all.Drive from ARTENARA to ACUSA then trough the BARRANCO DE ALDEA to SAN NICOLAS de Tolentino. Take the same way back, and after a barrage on a junction just before a little tunnel,go right and pass the little village of EL CARRIZAL and end on the main road nearby AYACATA.(for an impression see pics in travelogue)

  • Tip Rating:
  • Besides La Gomera, I have visited La Palma as well as El Hierro, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. El Hierro and La Gomera are the only Canary Islands without an international airport. Therefore, peace and tranquility reign over the steep, green, terraced hills of La Gomera. The island also is a hiker's paradise.

  • Tip Rating:
  • El Golfo - This is a deep emerald green lagoon in the rim of half a volcanic crater, the other half of which is submerged in the sea. The effects of algae in the water cause the bright green of the lagoon. Due to evaporation, the salt content of the water is highly concentrated.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Isla Graciosa - This is an island separated from Lanzarote by a short stretch of water known as El Rio. There is a crossing from Orzola on the north of Lanzarote to Caleta del Sabo each morning and afternoon in the season. The island has no tarred roads, no cars and no shade. It does have empty beaches and sand dunes.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Orzola - This village is found at the northern tip of the island. You can catch the ferry to La Graciosa, sample the fine beaches or visit the excellent local restaurants. It is a working fishing harbour. Take time out to check out this spot.
