    Many restaurants in tourist heavy locations have expensive prices for average meals. You'll know a tourist restaurant because it has pictures of its food and a menu that's translated into 5 different languages. You can find meals that are much better and half the price by walking over a street or two and looking for a menu without translations.

    I am not saying the food at these locations is not worth eating, and it's very useful to have a menu which you can actually understand without a translation guide, but if you must eat at these places the waiters prefer you order by number instead of name.

    There are many wonderful places to eat in Santa Cruz. In fact- there's even a "good eating guide" that your hotel is likely to have. Pick one up and find some culinary delights that even the locals enjoy.
