Parque Exotico

by albleroy

to visit this gardens you can take a free bus all over the south. The will bring you at the entrance of the garden. For amateurs of tropical live, aswell fauna as flora. It has a surface of about 40.000 sq.m.with a large choice of succulent plants. All this is classified and arranged in continents. The plants were more choisy in the beginning (12 years ago) but still more then interesting to visit. They have allso a division for the tropical animals. This is in a place protected by nettings to avoid that birds could fly away.Allso a division with snakes etc... is to visitIt is a good place to visit in family on a day the sun is on holliday!!!!!! (haha)

Hiking in the Caldera de TaburienteThe Caldera is a kind of crater wich was created by erosion. Although La Palma is vulcanic, this is not a vulcanic crater. The river bed of the Rio Taburiente goes through and you can follow it deep into the caldera. You will be surrounded by 1000m high mountainwalls. Sometimes you have to climb over rocks or cross the river.

The Palmex cactus-garden between Los Llanos and El PasoA german emigrant opend this garden some years ago. There is a big variety of cactuses and even if you are not a botanic freak it´s interesting to see the many different types and sizes. It´s a quiet place without any touristbuses.

watch the clouds crawl over the Cumbre NuevoNormally every day around 12 midday the clouds begin to come from the east. They swash over the ridge and come to nothing at the westside. Sometimes it almost looks like a giant waterfall of clouds.

by LysDor

GO UP TO TEIDEThe national park has some of the most dramatic mountain scenery to be found in Spain, in the centre of the island high above the clouds. Somehow, the humid cloudy coast without natural beaches has been made popular as a holiday destination! (Note - don't think you will be able to go off and find that deserted little cove on Tenerife, the few that exist have long ago been discovered and are packed, and I mean packed, with locals, naturists and hippies). The mountains are a much better bet.

by LysDor

Going to the top of TEIDE by cable-car (last 1000m!) was tempting but as I'm afraid of heights I did not go up.PS: Before going DON'T FORGET to take warm clothes with you as the temperature drops dramatically up here.

When you drive from Santa Cruz to El Paso you will most likely realize the difference in weather. On the western side of the mountains the temperature is usually higher than in Santa Cruz. The picture shows clouds over the mountain range at El Paso.
