There are many small villages...

by AndreasK

There are many small villages scattered across the island. The North side of La Gomera is greener than the South, due to the prevailing northeast trade winds. On the picture you see the village of Agulo in the northwest of the island.

Tamani's Things to Do Tip

by Tamani

La Palma has a lot of interesting Flora. The little island has 70 endemic plant species. Also special is the lack of mammals. Only one species of bat lived originally on the island. Rabbits and other species were introduced later. So, no monkey to been seen, and still I like the island!

The Beaches of Gran Canaria

by Motzl

Maspalomas is possible to be the most beautiful among the phantastic beaches of this island. With its white sand at a length of 6 kilometers, a width of up 1 kilometer, and an intensely blue sea ...this is a paradise for sun and sea lovers, in particular during the cold European winter!

Cueva de los Verdes

by cheekymarieh

The caves are actually created through the volcanic action on the islands. The name is actually the Cave of the Greens because a family named green lived within them. It is not a refrence to the colour green being found in the caves.During the 17th century the local people used to hide in the caves when Arab raiders came over from mainland Africa to find slaves. The Green family were able to survive in the caves because they were at a constant temperature of around 18C all year round.

Casa de los volcanes

by cheekymarieh

This is a science museum located at the top of the Jameos del Agua. It concentrates mainly on volcanic activity. Being on a volcanic island you really should take a trip and learn something how your destination came into being.

Los Jameos Del Agua

These are the caves which the local artist Cesar Manrique has converted to show their natural beauty. Can you believe that before he got his hands on them the locals had been using them as a rubbish tip? There is actually a lift available for the less able bodied people to go down to the bottom although you will have to come back up the same way.Inside the caves there are some tiny blind, white crabs which have been brought close to the surface by the volcanic activity. This is the only place in the world where you can see such specimens.
