by cheekymarieh

Echadero de los Camellos (Camel ParkFrom this point you can take a short ride on a dromedary(count the humps as to why they are called dromedary and are not really camels)into the volcanic wasteland. We discovered that a dromedary could lose a great deal of water during a ride!

Lanzarote- take the guided tour through the volcanic national park, the only one of it's kind and only accessible by authorised tours.Gran Canaria- the Sand Dunes are a magnificent sight, straight out of the Sahara desert.Tenerife- great nightlife and black volcanic sand. All year round good temperatures make these Islands and ideal get-away during the winter months.

Tenerife,a trip up mount Teide...

by Linky_Pinky

Tenerife,a trip up mount Teide a live volcano is a must. Excursions at about £24 per adult £13 per child (2002) The coach takes you to a Luna landscape from where you take the cable car to the top, not for the faint hearted, the ride is quite scary as you go over the pylons the car swings to and fro, also because of the altitude (12,199ft)(3718m) the air is a little thinner so take it easy, once of the cable car there’s a bit of a climb to the mouth of the volcano, to feel the heat and smell the sulphur. Phew! I stayed near the cable station and went in the small cafe for a hot chocolate with brandy in it, and sat and admired the view. Do bring a jacket or jumper it’s cold up here, and sunscreen as you also get burnt from the sun without realising it.

Timanfaya National Park

by UK_Man

On Lanzarotte the Timanfaya National Park is well worth a visit, either by organised coach or in your own hire car. We went in Feb 2001, and it only cost around £8 for two adults and one child to get entry, and that also included a coach tour (with English/German/Spanish taped commentary) around the volcano crater - the only way to see this, by the way.You can also eat at the restaurant there - a little pricey but not overly so, and your food gets cooked over a vent which funnels heat from deep within the mountain! Cool!

Carnival

by bugulma

It is the end of February, when every inhabitant dresses carnival costume, even waiters in the hotel. I watched carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of Canary Islands. It was a procession in the embankment, which lasted 4 or 5 hours. It’s a kind of competition with prizes: the best costume, the best carnival group and so on. There were many groups in the same original costumes, some of them with orchestra. I must say time flows imperceptibly when you see the carnival procession. It’s hard to try telling about. You should watch it.

Loro Park

The best zoo I’ve seen in my life. It was built in 1972 and had a “the best zoo in the world” prize in 1994. The zoo is in the northern part of Tenerife Island. When I crossed a virtual border between north and south I saw how stones slowly disappeared and green trees appeared instead. The zoo met me with gold fishes’ pound. I cross it along the bridge and here is a place where zoo photographer makes your photo with a pair of parrots. You may take it when you leave the zoo. Then I saw gorillas’ pavilion. I never saw them so close. Then, I opened my mouth when I saw that parrots and flamingos are without any cage. As a matter of fact, in Russian zoos animals are always in cages. So I can observe life of parrots, flamingos, pelicans, small crocodiles and another animals in the nature. I felt myself great. Then I was in heaven when I came in Aquarium. Fishes with different colors and seizes...

by CptKangaroo

You should hire a small 4WD for a few days to explore the more remote parts of the island. It's really worth it, there a beautiful beaches and sceneries that are noot crowded with tourist just a few kilometres outside the cities.Quietness on an otherwise fairly touristic island.

by telebug

Isla de Los Lobos is a little island off the north coast of Fuerteventura. The former name of the island is Magi-Mani. It was used as a hiding place for pirates and slave traders. It owes its name to heards of seals that used to stopover on the island on their travels. Lobos means wolves but in this case it refers to lobos marinos,or seals.Pyroclastic rocks, loose volcanic products such as tephrite and tuff largely cover the island and the highest point is 122m above sea level, with a coast line of cliffs. There is a restaurant on the island but it does close one day so you need to check at Correlejo port before booking. The sea from the island to fuerteventura is reasonably shallow (no more than 17m)so scuba diving and snorkeling is popular you might see the stingray, parrot fish, barracuda sea bass and horse mackeral.

Take a trip over to Lanzarote on the 'Blue Delphin' We did the 2 island hop so we also visited Isla de Lobos on the way back from Lanzarote 'Lobos meaning wolves' but probably relates to the seals that used to inhabit the island. It gives you a chance to view the coast line from the boat and you can see the lovely colours of the light blue sea and the sand dunes look beautiful. You may even see dolphins, whales, turtles and flying fish.

Take a trip down to Jandia,Its only an hours drive from Puerto Del Rosario and the coastal drive is beautiful. On the same road you will see the botanical gardens and the Camel park. The beaches are huge and water sports are very popular. Lots of kite surfing and wind surfing, quite amazing watching the kites as it actually lifts the surfer right out of the water.
