local travel with the bus company
  • Tip Rating:
  • the cheapest way for traveling all over the island is, without dobt, the local bus company, named TITSA. To travel cheap you have to buy, in the bookshops the BONO BUS card. It costs 12 Euro and paying your fair with this card gives you a rabate of about 50% . For exemple, going from the south Los Cristianos to the capital Santa Cruz (75Km) with the express bus (111) who takes the highway and does not stops during the fair, takes about 1 hour and cost in normal price Euro 6.5 with the bonobus card you pay only Euro 3. That is the best and cheapest way to travel as the busses are reaching near all interessant places. You can ask for a travel map, with all stop places and there bus numbers, in the local tourist offices or in the "Estation de Gua-Gua" in english the bus stations. good travel

  • The best way to discover the island is by car.But take one with steering power, because of the thousands of curves on the roads. If you can't afford a car, then you can drive all the island around with busses.Starting from Las Palmas you can reach every place and corner of the island. All you need is time.

  • Tip Rating:
  • The speedboat from Los Cristianos (Tenerife) to San Sebastian (La Gomera) takes about 45 minutes. There are also slower car ferries, which take around 75 minutes. The ferry from La Palma to La Gomera takes considerably longer, since it passes via Tenerife. The speedboat service from Los Cristianos to Valle Gran Rey was not in effect when I traveled in 2002, but should be available in 2006. The picture on the left is not a speedboat ;-)

  • Tip Rating:
  • There are lots of flights to Arrecife airport on Lanzarote. The UK in particular has excellent connections, even during the winter months. We found that the airport wasn't particularly crowded in the winter but as it is quite small I wouldn't like to visit in the summer season. ****Warning****This is not one ot the best airports if you require wheelchair assistance. Your passenger will be expected to manage both the wheelchair and the luggage.

  • Local buses are excellent. They will save you quite alot of money if you use them in preference to organised coach trips.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Apart from being on foot, the best way is to go by bus. The island is small, only 30 kms in diameter or so, but because of the buildup of the island (a vulcano) it is impossible to drive around it on a coastal road. All the traffic first has to climb to the central highland and then descent towards a villages at the coastline again. A spectacular busride! You could bring a rental car from Tenerife, but it would kind of spoil the fun. The island is too small for that.
