Charter flight. Get a last minute flight; no problem.Mine put me 100 US $ down, flying out of Tromso, northern Norway.Rent a car at each location. Use buses and ferries to get between the islands.Driving can be hazardous. On Gran canaria and tenerife the local drivers are mad. On La Palma and La Gomera the roads are 'mad.'
Best way to go is by plane, of course, but the other alternative is from boat if you have plenty of time or want to take your own car (from Portugal or Spain)Travel around the isles involves to get a car. It´s compulsory if you want to know the isles. The distances are short but complicated most of times. We hired a car for several days, the price is very competitive. If you need to go from isle to isle best is by boat. There are two main companies with a complete timetable ( Fred Olsen and Transmediterranea ).
TENERIFE: By plane. Nearly all touristic flights are landing at the Reina Sofia Airport in the south of the island. Hire a car! The island is quite large and there are many different landscapes to explore! Better make a reservation at your travel agency at home. We had trouble to find a car, all was booked out!!!

I highy recommend using Spanair to get to the islands. Their service is excellent. AVOID IBERIA AT ALL COSTS. Around the islands Fred Olsen ferries are great fun and inexpensive. On Tenerife, the bus service will take you anywhere you want to go.
By air, from Madrid. There are very few direct flights from other cities.Caution: Determine the location of your hotel/resort ahead of time. There are 2 airports, and -- if you fly into the 'wrong' airport -- you can be faced with a long drive. You MUST rent a car.
You will be able to get a direct flight to the Canary Islands from most major cities within Europe as it is a very popular tourist destination and a lot of people go there on package holidays.Rent a moped but be careful - the drivers are mad!
The Island I know the best is Tenerife. You can sail coming here but I always fly getting here. Then you can travel by bus or rent a car. The locations are just a few kilometers distant one from each other.

Most people go by special tourist charter airplane. If you're not in a hurry take the sight seeing special.

We used taxis for most of the time we were in Puerto Rico mainly due to having a two-year old with us. From where we stayed near the Europa Centre, it was about £2 to get to the nice beach.
