Thiefs on the beaches!!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Attention on the beache, never let your personal effects alone. Very often thiefs are running on the beach looking for the good moment when you are swimming in the water. At such a moment you have to ask to friends, family or people next to you to keep an eye on your belongings.

    Time sharing appartment selling
  • Tip Rating:
  • You will sertainly be attacked by people who will try to take you with them or to put you in a taxi to bring you to the selling office. They will present you lottery tickets, and be sure you are allways winning and you have to pick up your price in the office. There they will try to convince you to buy 1 or 2 week live long vacation etc.......... Don't beleave this, most of this company's does not excist, they are, on the paper, located on the Island Man or Write. But only paper companies. A lot of people are in justice with those (let say) companies. Make attention and does not sign papers.

  • Tip Rating:
  • At the INTERIOR of the island there is NO danger at all.But if you stay at the touristic places, like Maspalomas, you should be carefull at night. Criminals comming from Las Palmas, they commit burglary, through your windows, standing open for the heath at night. There are also many pickpockets on the street, and people who try to search contact with you, using an evasion.LOOK OUT!

  • Tip Rating:
  • Like all Canary islands, La Palma is of volcanic origin. La Caldera de Taburiente is a gigantic crater with a rim of 28 kms and up to 770 metres high. In November 2001, exactly one year after my last visit, several tourists were trapped in this volcano and were killed during a rainstorm.

    A massive sandstorm blowing...
  • Tip Rating:
  • A massive sandstorm blowing off the northwest African desert has blanketed hundreds of thousands of square miles of the eastern Atlantic Ocean with a dense cloud of Saharan sand. The massive nature of this particular storm was first seen in a SeaWiFS image on Saturday, 26 February 2000 when it reached over 1000 miles into the Atlantic. These storms and the rising warm air can lift dust 15,000 feet or so above the African deserts and then out across the Atlantic, many times reaching as far as the Caribbean where they often require the local weather services to issue air pollution alerts as was recently the case in San Juan, Puerto Rico. More info at: SeaWiFS

  • Tip Rating:
  • On our last day at La Palma, we planned a day at the beach. Unfortunately it was storming and we were not even allowed to walk along the water... So, if you plan a relaxing beach holiday...go somewhere else.

  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a general warning but covers all travel I think, INSURANCE I can't stress enough how important this is, I know sometimes we think its a waste of time and money but I can assure you its not. I fell ill with Pneumonia while in Tenerife (how I will never know, something to do with going from air con to heat I think) any way I was hospitalised and on a drip for three days in a private hospital in Playa de las Americas, I was really well looked after and fed and I only shared a room with two other people. On being discharged from the hospital they passed me all the details of my three day stay to me for my insurance, I would have had to fork out £900 GBP to pay for this treatment so I think £30 was worth it!

  • Tip Rating:
  • It is not advised to drink the tap water although we did for tea and coffee. It has a high level of minerals in it to purify it. But bottled water is cheap anyway.
