San Vicente de La Barquera is easy to reach from many places. If you are coming from Madrid you can take the train to Santander, then right across the train station you can find the bus station. There are two main lines that go to San Vicente: La Cantabrica and Alsa. If you have not obtained your bus schedules ahead of time, just walk to the Bus Information desk and they will let you know which is the next bus. For Alsa (Astibus) you buy your ticket and get an assigned seat. For La Cantabrica from Santander, I do not know if they will sell you the ticket at the counter or if you buy it at the bus because I took Alsa TO San Vicente, however, returning FROM San Vicente to Santander I took La Cantabrica and the tickets were purchased right on the bus. The Santander station is much bigger than the station in San Vicente, so the process could be different -so if your next bus is La Cantabrica, make sure to ask where you buy your ticket - in the counter, or right at the bus.
Please note that the Web Link will get to to Alsa and other companies in Cantabria.
The email link is for La Cantabrica - they will send you the schedule, There is no need to buy your ticket ahead of time.
Once you buy your ticket, you go down two flights of automatic stairs in the Santander station for your bus. Make sure you get the correct GATE number! This is a BIG station.

You could also come to San Vicente de la Barquera if you're based out of Comillas, Llanes, Santillana del Mar, or any other little town along the bus path - check or email the bus sites for schedules.
Once in San Vicente de La Barquera the simplest way to get around is to walk. This town is great for strollers if you have little children but be aware some of the streets may have a slight inclination. Bring a comfortable pair of shoes, and enjoy!
