Thw set menu was very good value at only 7.50 Euros. It was three courses with wine and water too!!! Each course was of a large size.

Once inside we were not disappointed with our choice. The atmosphere was friendly, service was really good and the place was spotlessly clean. Although the 3 course menu of the day was tempting at 18 Euros we decided to go for a selection of tapas dishes.
We ordered shrimps in garlic, a chorizo dish, red peppers stuffed with meat & some albondigas ( meatballs )
Everything was good. The shrimps were more like large prawns sizzling in a delicious garlic oil. Both the chorizo & the albondigas were just as good but our favourite was the stuffed red peppers ( pimientos rellanos ) There was also plenty of crusty bread to mop up the juices. Nothing went to waste.
The wine was a real bargain. We had a bottle of nice dry white and half a bottle of house red which came to a total of 12 Euros. This was our lunch on my birthday and was a good choice. We were full up and went back, happy, to our hotel for a siesta. We would go back again if in the area.

This is a very interesting place. It is located next to "Faro Mayor" (big lighthouse) and it has one of the nicest views in Santander. It is a bar/cafe run by ex-foreign legion soldiers.
People come here to enjoy drinks and tapas "Al Fresco"
looking at the ocean from the top of a cliff.
This is a must. Normally you will find only locals here since
it is relatively unknown to tourists. It is a few miles from the citty but there is a bus going there. You can also take a taxi.
It should noty be more than 5 euros from Sardinero beach.

Santander is s seap[ort. That means toons of fresh fish.
Try always fish on season. My favourite is white tuna (bonito). The season starts in august and last until october.
The best ways to try it is grilled (bonito a la plancha) or in tomato sauce (bonito con tomate) .
One local dish is a pate made out of cabracho fish and shrimps. Cabracho is the ugliest fish you can imagine but is very tasty. The pate is called "pudding the cabracho" and is served as a racion (large tapa). This is a must ! Leave a Comment

this bar was very accommodating very good barmen very quick to please.the food on display made you feel hungry as soon as you walked in.ordered beers and tapas.whilst sitting enjoying our break i noticed a local gentleman with a big cigar sitting at bar he kept having his glass topped up with whisky making sure he had a good measure. we was there for an hour and he must have had at least half a bottle or more. (notice him in the picture).

Fish !!!!! just ask for fish (pescado) and wait ... accep also wine advice, it was really interesting.

And old palace, now a medium and not expensive restaurant. They have a touristic menu for about 8 US $. Located at the entrance of the town, in Santo Domingo Street. You can have lunch inside (reservations recommended) or at its wonderful quiet patio, all surrounded by old green trees. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

There are many tapas bars in Santander but Bodegas Uriarte is my favourite. Recomended are the "Albondigas"
(meatballs) and the "Gambas al ajillo" (garlic shrimps).
The price is good and the portions bigger than normal.
The atmosphere is also very nice but be prepared to smoke second hand. That's inevitable in Spain.
