Take a trip in a modern catamaran motor boat.
In the spring-summer-autumn season the company organises excursions around the bay and out to the Sardinero cove visiting the most attractive spots along the coast line.
Some of the places visited are Somo, LaIsla de Mouro and la Magdalena.
The company that organises these trips are Los Reginas , S.A
You can get tickets (and the boat) from the Paseo Maritimo

One trip in a "pedreñera" opens several good alternatives to spend the day :
    - To go to the Puntal beach that is one of the best and more quite beach near Santander
    - To make a trip on the bay reaching the light house
    - Simply to go to visit Somo and Pedreña , make a stroll and eat good sardines and tuna fish

  • "Traditional" bus lines: 1 to
    6
    by milugares
Santander has neither trams nor underground, but the bus connections around city centre and tourist places are excellent.
You can catch almost every bus line to move along the seeside between the city hall up to el sardinero (beach area).

Bus line to University of Cantabria and university residences is line 7 (in winter reinforced with lines 3 and / or 4 - partially).

Some other lines have also appeared in the last few years to cover city extensions. Don't know them myself, but detailed maps and info about every line can be found on the link beneath:

  • Hello "mate":
For me the train is not the best way to move in the North of Spain , at least is not the quickest
1 -At any case you must go to to the bus/train station from the airport ( see Santander travel tip ( http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/9fb96/3e1cb/9/ ) )
    2. To go to San Sebastian you may take the bus , it takes 3 hours and it cost 12.48Euros ( Normal bus)
To see details you may enter in the Alsa (Transport company ) that has an English version and you may see there all the details ( http://www.alsa.es/?portal.alsa.request.locale=en_GB )
You may go direct to SS , but if you want to go to Bilbao to visit it or to go to the Guggenheim Museum , you should take the bus in the same station
    Buen Viaje !!!!!!

The cheapest way to get into town from the airport is by bus. The fare is only 1 Euro 50 cents.

The stop is right outside the terminal and buses run every half hour - on the hour and at half past. Buses from town back to the airport run at quarter past and quarter to even on a Sunday. The journey only takes 5 - 10 minutes.

The Estacion Autobuses is on Calderon de la Barca which is next to the RENFE railway station which is within walking distance of all hotels in the old town. You can change buses here to get to the Casino area at El Sardinero.

A taxi from the airport to the city is approx 9 Euros and to El Sardinero it was 14 Euros.
It is a quicker option and there were many outside the airport.
Make sure they switch on the meter though!!
