Favorite thing: The foundation of the town dates back to the Roman times, but Santillana gained importance during the Middle Ages, as it became the capital of the Asturias de Santillana. The Merino or representant of the King had his residence here and it became thus the most important town in the area.

Favorite thing: The main streets of Santillanda lead to the Romanesque collegiate, the main building in the town. The view from these streets with the hills and fields in the background is unforgettable.

Favorite thing: Santillana del Mar is a very small town, but there are no modern buildings in the center, so it has perfectly retained the charm of ancient localities.
