EL PANTANO DE VEGAMIAN is a reservoir that was created in 1969. Several villages were displaced as a result of the building of this damn & reservoir including Vegamian, Loadares, Utrero, Ferraras, Armada, Campillo, Quintanilla and Camposolillo. In some places you can actually see the remains of parts of villages, including asphalt roads that lead right into the water. The reason that you want to go there is that it is stunningly beautiful. The reservoir is huge and creates a lovely scenic lake. It weaves in and out of mountains and it really is a sight to behold. This was one of the most beautiful and serene places I have ever seen.
Just enjoying the wide open spaces without traffic (except cows) for a bike ride was one of my favorite things to do. Most of the roads are rarely travelled by cars so it is quite safe and friendly for bicyclists.
