statue

He was born in Caleruega in 1171, he was famous for its sanctity and was offered in life 3 times the bishop, but he always preferred to be with the poor, and he died as it.

The statue is in front of the Monastery, in the centre of the village

It is now used as Museum by the Dominican priests, from the 12th century.

The photos is from the main square and the San Sebastian church, the Guzman tower is behind the convent, behind me, sorry no photos

Saint Guzman

Saint Guzman was born in Caleruega in 1170. He lived in Osma and studied in Palencia. After moving to France he founded the ´Orden de Predicadores´ (Order of Preachers) in 1216. He died in Bologna in 1221.

His statue is located just outside the Convent.

Convento de las MM. Dominicas

Built in 1266 by Alfonso X, the Wise, King of Castile and son of Fernado III. He gave it to the Nuns of San Esteban de Gormaz, who still occupy it today. You can visit the convent and tours are available, but we did not have time as they were about to close.

Opening hours are 10:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 19:00.

Monastery

Created by Alfonso X el Sabio at the 1266.

You can do tourist visits to the convent, but we did not had time as Santo Domingo de Silos was closing earlier.
