    The Villa Romana in Quintanilla de la Cueza is about 40 kms.Nordwest of Palencia.It was a kind of manor built in Third Century and whose wreckage was discovered in 1970.
    The best are the well conserved tiles and a system of heating called hipocaustum.Something similar to the one used for the inhabitants of this area until not many years ago.
    Timetable:
    Since April to September 30 from Tu.to Su.:10-13.30 h. and 16.30-20.00 h.

    Autilla is situated about 9 kms.far away from Palencia taking the N-611 road towards Villalon,and then taking the road towards Villamartín where there is another road which comes to the top of the hill where Autilla is situated.Another way is taking the B road from Palencia towards Ampudia.
    From the viewpoint can be seen more than 30 villages.The area is called Tierra de Campos,and id you come in Spring you can imagine a sea,a sea with little waves of wheat and barley waving with the wind.
    Very close to the viewpoint there is a typical cellar for eating and drinking something.
    Furthermore,Autilla has a museum of Ethnography:Agricultural works,food productions,social organizations,clothing...Apart from Agriculture,which was the main way to living,there are representative objects of the characteristic jobs of the area,such as Blacksmiths,stone masons,spinners.shoemakers,vintners..

    The Diputación is a palace build in 1914 by a local architect,Jerónimo Arroyo.
    Just entering in look up the ceiling:there is a large painting showing the women of Palencia fighting against the English .As a result of their heroism they got the golden ribbons over their traditional dresses.

    Frómista is a village 40 kms.away from Palencia on the way to Santander.San Martin church is one of most significant monuments of the whole spanish Romanesque.It can be classified as an archetype of Romanesque expression of the last third of the XI Century.

    It is a huge concrete sculpture builded in 1931 on the top of a conical hill (otero).With 30 meter high is the second tallest sculpture of Christ in the world,after the one of Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro.It seems a kind of lighthouse for people of Palencia when they are coming to the town.It is possible to come up by car or on foot because it's very near.

    The Cathedral of Palencia is here called "The Beautiful Unknown One",because not many tourists come to this town.I can see it from my window and as a curiosity I counted more than 200 storks on its roof last August.

    La iglesia es una de las grandes joyas del románico español con clara influencia francesa que se terminó en 1208 . Fue un monasterio benedictino
    Tienen una Hospedería muy buena , que puede ser una buena opción para estar en un sitio antiguo , tranquilo y agradable

    In the Mave village it is the group of church and Inn
    The church is one of the biggest jewels of the Spanish Romanesque with a clear French influence that was finished on 1208. It was a Benedictine monastery
    They have a very good Inn , that may be a good option to stay in a nice old quite and nice

    Este pequeño pueblo posee una iglesia parroquial románica con uno de los más delicados apostolados del románico presidido por un Pantocrátor sobre la portada con capiteles profusamente tallados de figuras humanas. Es sin duda una de las mejores obras del románico palentino. En el interior tallas góticas de Vírgenes con el Niño, del siglo XIV. ( es una pena que no vimos el pórtico con la luz de la tarde )

    This small village has a Romanesque Parrish Church with one of the most delicate Romanesque group of Apostols . Inside there are Gothic images of the Virgin with the Child of the XIV century ( It is a pity that we couldn't see the portico with the last light of the day )

    Una familia lleva más de 5 generaciones cuidando y mimando esta iglesia y es un placer cuando uno de ellos te explica la historia , las anécdotas y todos los detalles de la iglesia para que por un rato te puedas sentir parte del pasado medieval
    Es una iglesia construida en la primera mitad del siglo XII, de una sola nave en dos tramos, que se cubren con bóveda de crucería cisterciense y cúpula con trompas
    ¡Ojo! tienen dos casas rurales que puede ser una opción
    5 generations of a family have been Taking care of this church and it is a real pleasure when one of them explains you the story , the anecdotes and all the church details in that for a while you may feel part of the medieval past
    It is a church built on the first half of the X!! century , of a single bay in two stretches with a vault of Cister crossing and a dome with "trompas"

    Es un convento de madres de clausura que por algún extraño motivo no permiten hacer fotografías
    Tiene un claustro mezcla de románico y gótico que es muy interesante

    También se la conoce como Villasirga y bien vale hacerle una visita

    Es un convento regido actualmente por los padres benedictinos , que tiene un claustro gótico con medallones renacentistas
    También se puede visitar la iglesia donde se encuentran las tumbas de los infantes de Carrión, que supuestamente se casaron con las hijas del Cid

    It is a convent managed by the Benedictines fathers , that has a Gothic cloister with renascence medallions
    You may also visit the church where are the tombs of the Carrión Infants that is supposed that they were married with the Cid daughters

    Carrión de los Condes es una de las más ilustres villas palentinas que ya se menciona en el poema del Cid y ha sido sede de varios concilios
    Por aquí pasa el Camino de Santiago y al atardecer es curioso ver la cantidad de peregrinos de todas las edades y nacionalidades que que se relajan por la villa para poder seguir el camino al día siguiente
    La iglesia de Santiago es del segundo tercio del siglo XII . En ella hay que destacar el friso dominado por el Pantócrator , rodeado por los tetramorfos y flanqueado por los apóstoles ,que se considera una de las mejores representaciones del románico

    Carrión de los Condes is one of the most distinguished villas of Palencia that is mentioned in the Cid poem and it has been the venue of several Councils
    Here passes the Camino de Santiago and in the evening it is peculiar to see the big number of pilgrims of all ages and nationalities that are relaxing in the village in order to continue the "camino" the next day
    Santiago church it was made on the second third of the XII century . On it we must point out
    the frieze dominated by the Pantocrator , surroundedby the tetramorfos and flanked by the Apostles , is considered one of the best works in the Romanesque

    Una vez más te sorprendes cuando vas por los inmensos campos de Castilla y en un pueblo pequeño te encuentras una iglesia del tamaño y de la riqueza que tiene la Iglesia parroquial de San Juan Bautista.
    Es de de un gótico esplendoroso en su crucero, con torre románica y algunos ventanales del mismo estilo. Maravilloso retablo renacentista donde se conjugan la bella traza, la delicadeza de las gúbias que trabajaron y la monumentalidad del mismo. El pórtico de entrada a la Iglesia es plateresco y está muy deteriorado por la calidad de la piedra

    Once more you are surprised when you are traveling the inmense Castilla field and in an small village you find a church of the size and with the treasures that has the Parrish church of San Juan Bautista
    It has a central part of the building of an splendorous Gothic , with a Romanesque tower and some windows of the same style . A very nice Renascence altar decoration where are matching the good carving and its monumentally. the acces portico to the church is "plateresco" and it is quite torn due to the stone quality
