There are many restaurants where you can enjoy the traditional Castilian cuisine. Among them I would point out some of my favorite: La Fragua is one of the most classical restaurants in Valladolid and in the very heart of the Paseo Zorrilla. Then you can check also: La Goya, El Caballo de Troya or La Parrilla de San Lorenzo.
The Castilian cuisine is known for its consistency in order to resist the rigors of the winter. It requires enough time to fully enjoy it. Among the most important dishes I can name the cocidos and potajes (stews) and, of course, the delicious lechazo (young lamb). Every meal should be accompanied by a good wine from the zone (Ribera del Duero for reds and Rueda for whites. Also Cigales has some quality wines). Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Nice cerveceria in the historical part of Burgos, in front of the fabulous cathedral. It is a sort of meeting point for pilgrims. They offer lunches at good prices (about 10 euros) including the famous morcillas de Burgos and good wines.

This is a wonderful place for tapas in your Camino de Santiago. When you come walking from Hontanas (there do not miss Casa Victorino and order for lunch callos with wine drinking directly from his “porron”, a kind of original glass container!) you will see a Brazilian flag. This is La Taberna. The owners have travelled extensively around Brazil and love this country.

This is probably the best well known restaurant of the whole of Spain. Kings, Princesses, Ministers, Franco, and even our present nuisance President Zapatero have more than once had dinner in this fabulous restaurant where they still observe the old Castilian feudal traditions, like cutting the sucking pig with a plate that immediately is thrown to the floor to be broken with much noise in one thousand pieces. The gastronomy in Castilla and Leon is very consistent; try the Sopa Castellana and sweets made by the nouns of the monasteries nearby Segovia. All Castilian dishes have to be accompanied by a superb Rioja, or Ribera del Duero, red wine. The restaurant building consists in an enchanting old house just across the world famous Roman Aqueduct (UNESCO Patrimony of Humandkind).

This restaurant has a self service offering Castilian dishes at about 8 euros for a lunch, including coffee. Besides, there is a shop where you can buy Spanish specialities such as chorizo, ham, and good wines from Ribera del Duero and Toro. On the first floor there is a hotel, also called Tudanca.
