by belgianchocolate I know this so well from the Antwerp zoo. Grandma of grandpa takes the children to the zoo. And they got a bonding with the animals. I witnessed this scene in the parc 'campo grande'. He was telling his grandchild about the squirrel. The little brown creature came down when he heard his name 'alfredo'... took the food and run. Other people tried to imitate... Leave a Comment

by belgianchocolate We were walking down the city when we came across this nice square with a fountain in the middle. Two naked men seem to push the fountain to another side. When we took a closer look we saw that the *** of one of those men was shining bright... It just made me wonder... We got a lot of statues in Belgium that are known to bring good luck rubbing this or that parth... I was tempted to try this one ... it was really shinning bright yellow - but I didn't dare to. So I can't tell you if it works. Do you think there could be another explanation for the shiny fraction ? Leave a Comment

by micas_pt Valladolid is the capital of the autonomous community Castilla y León, situated in central Spain. Castilla y León is composed of 9 provinces, one of which is Valladolid - this city is situated about 200km north of Madrid. In the 1500's Valladolid was, for a short period, the capital of Spain - the King and Queen lived there, and the city grew a lot, due to the gold and money that was brought from Spanish discoveries and conquests overseas. Over the years, the monarchs moved to Madrid and Valladolid lost its importance and development stopped (as well as the richness from overseas). In the early 19th century, Napoleón Bonaparte occupied and had installed headquarters in this city. In the 20th century, Valladolid recovered its "strength" and went through a major development, which lead the city to being selected as the capital of the autonomous community in 1983. by belgianchocolate I love parcs and gardens. I love to watch people in parcs and gardens. Valladolid has a real nice one in the center. On the map it looks huge , and it is compared to the area of the cities center. One thing we saw were 'white peacocks' They are just stunning! I did see them ones before... but for free it was the first time. They like to sit in a tree near the angel waterfall in the center of the 'campo grande' Leave a Comment

by belgianchocolate It was a holiday when we arrived. The city was empty...except for one place. The parc 'campo grande' seemed to have turned into a low ^profile attraction parc. We saw this crowed near the central lake. When we came closer there was this popey character with a boat with a lot of children. There was talking and waving... he seemed to entertain the whole crowd. >Finally the children said goodbey to mum and dad. A last kiss... AND THE BOAT LEFT FOR THE TOUR ROUND THE FOUNTAIN. ;-) Leave a Comment

by micas_pt I found Valladolid quite a cosmopolitan city, compared to other capitals of Castilla y León's provinces such as Salamanca, Segovia, Zamora or Ávila. It is a bigger city than those I mentioned - around 320.000 inhabitants - and seems to have bigger economic activity, such as services, more commerce and more leisure activities. Still, Valladolid is more than modern buildings - along the city many beautiful styled buildings may be seen, and some of them visited. Valladolid is a beautiful city by the river to visit during the day and to enjoy at night, as there are so many options to go out and have fun. Leave a Comment

Empanadas de Pucela by bonmse If you're in Valladolid during the Fiesta of La Virgen de San Lorenzo (September 9th) be sure to sample the food available at the street fairs and amusement park fair (set-up on the field next to Jose Zorrilla Stadium). The picture shown here is of empanadillas - a pastry that could have fish or other delicacies on the inside.
The fondest sight of Valladolid I remember was the street stand sponsored by the 'Cerveceria El Guevo'. Leave a Comment

by Carmela71 Valladolid, the capital of Castilla-Leon has one of the most important sculpture museums of all Spain, and the famous Easter week processions are of great touristical interest. It is said that in Valladolid the most correct Castilian Spanish is spoken, so it is an ideal place to study this language. As my family are from Aranda de Duero, very near, my mother studied there in the university, so I can prove that this is correct (I mean that here can you can learn the most correct spanish).
