 | Valladolid Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 68 | | I watched my eyes out so I don't put this at the shopping tips. This market was build in 1882. It is the time when iron structures are popular. New materials are used. INSIDE the market their is a cozy busyness. Of course it is the place where the local mama's come to shop. In general a lot of fresh fish , meat are sold.... A bit dissapointed I was to find only one tapasbar. But that's ok. I had to get used to the smell the first few seconds. (I'm very sensitive). Second I had to get used to was what they were selling in the butchers shops. A lot fo lung , kidney , heart... but also piglet sold in one piece. The best way to look in the locals kitchen. MERDE! we didn't get in. We saw this building on the outside and it seemed to be a theater. A closer look gave us a picture of the inside. WAU , I would have loved to see anything in this theater. They do have a large offer of performances! Music , opera , theater... And now comes the convenient parth. They also got a ticket selling mashine. So ladies and gents , when you arrive and you are staying for a couple of days.. Go and have a look at the program announced at the entry. Maybe you like this sort of buildings as well. (tickets can cost as much as 50 euro for the best places for opera performances- and as little as a couple of euros for theater for a bad place) DO IT! Leave a Comment

In the afternoon the shops close , people seem to hide.. The city gets empty. We found the perfect spot to enjoy the weather , to relax and watch the locals... There is a little garden in the parc , 'Campo Grande' The entrance is in the middle of 'Paseo de Zorilla' Children love to play with the water in the fountain , mum and dad relax and eat some tapas...Grandpa and grandma's gather together making a lot of fun. No , need to tire your feet , a robust waiter brings the drinks. Well , the fountain , it's a nice try. Your in Spain , not in Italy. But the sound is great. ;-) Leave a Comment

Most definitely a highlight for me was a visit to the 'patio Herreriano' The museum for modern art. At first I was a little dissapointed- it is a beautifull building. (the fact that they reuse old buildings and give them a new destination , fantastic) Disapointed because the first 3 'salas' are the permanent collection. I don't like those paintings with 3 stripes and 5 colored rectangles. But it soon became better and showed the true spirit of the new Spanish creative generation. -Javier Velasco : I write this story with tears. 'an installation with light reflecting all the chrystal drops and a video with a swimming baby' -Cristina Garcia Rodero 'a whole room with fantastic pictures made at mystic rituals in or outside Spain' -Ana Laura Ala?z 'A facinating videoclib , shown in a pink soft room. She even sings it herself' What you need to know is that all of these works are temporary. But it is sure a good break from all that religious old art. Leave a Comment

How shall is subscribe the city Valladolid? The city is located in the center of Spain , and the capital city of the the province with the same name. The city has about 350 000 inhabitants. In Belgium that would be a large city... But it doesn't feel like a large city. The center has managed to completely remain charming. A lot of people live in the outskirts in large appartment buildings. The city was already know as BALAD WALID in the Moorish period (8th century). In the city you can find a lot of monuments reminding that rich history. (and I went here to celebrate my brithday) Leave a Comment Directions: This amazing bird can be seen on a corner of the central shopping street on top of a magnificent building in 'calle Santiago'

Not what we were looking for. But we saw the back of the building from our hotel room and that made us curious. The former ' Real Colegio Padres Agustinos Filipinos' houses now one of the most beautiful collections of ORIENTAL ART. I think they ruined some parts of the interior a bit. They got a nice collection of chinese porcelain. Also a room with filipine-catholic art. 'Check the opening houres ! The Ayuntamiento - City Hall - is a nice building on Plaza Mayor. Like other buildings on this square, it is painted dark pink and has beautiful carved white stone. The City Hall is installed on this building since 1908. As the Plaza, this building also is a result of a project that follows a 16th century design, although some refurbishments were made since the early 1900's. Leave a Comment

Plaza Mayor is a colourful square in the centre of the city. Underneath the beautiful dark pink buildings, on the arcades, you will find some commerce such as cafes, jewelleries or drugstores. It is a pedestrians' square and cars are only allowed in a small area to access the underground parking space. Plaza Mayor seems to be a bustling square, as it was often full of people, both passers-by on their daily life and big groups of youngsters - students, tourists. Leave a Comment

This is the Central Park of Valladolid. It has a small lake with ducks and nice gardens containing red squirrels, peacocks, black swans and a lot of birdlife. It also has playgrounds for children and is used as a shortcut by the locals. It is definitely one of the nicer places in Valladolid. Leave a Comment Address: Near the Plaza Zorrilla

Among the first builing we walked up to after putting our luggage in the hotel was the 'Capilla Maria Reparadora' The chapel of Maria reparative : I did my best to translate that.. ;-) The facade is quit rich and being a chapel it is quit huge as well. Her neighbour is the 'museo oriental'. Both are located with their front towars a beautifull parc 'campo grande'. Unfortunately we couldn't get in once. Leave a Comment Address: Paseo De Filipinos
