Situated 401m on the sea level, between the towns of Argentona and Cabrera, and visible since lots of places of the region, are the ruins of the Burriach Castle. First mention to this building dates from 1017, when the countess Ermessenda give it to his son, Ramon Berenguer I. First was known as "Sant Viçenc Castle", but in 1313 it change his name to the actual one.
Around the XVIII century it was definitively abandoned, and nowadays is just a place to walk and have great views.

Something curious is for the people of the town, this castle is uses like a improvisated barometer: "Boira a Burriach, pluja aviat" (Fog in Burriach, rain soon).

Matar's train station

From Barcelona you can catch a train on Sants, Catalunya, Arc de Triomf or Clot-Aragó stations, with destination Mataró, Blanes, Calella or Maçanet, and get off in Mataró Station. Then, in front of the train station u have to catch a bus with direction Argentona, Granollers, Dosrius or Canyamars. With all these buses you will arrive to Argentona. You will recognize the town cause a inscription under 3 palm trees.

Some time ago Argentona was well known by the magic propierties of its water. People came to the town just to fill bottles of water of the fountains, specially "Font Picant", because they say that this water cure. The true is that this water was of very good quality, was medicinal mineral water that was generated in the mountains. Nowadays these fountains still have water, and people go there to fill bottles too, but now are not anymore turists, just people from the village.
I recommend you to take a walk in the mountains, and try to discover these "hided" treasures, and refresh yourself with cold water. A local group called "Grup de les Fonts" is restaurating some fountains from some years ago, and they are doing a great work.
