Barcelona Airport to City

We arrived into Barcelona on an 8.30 flight. Bags recevied very quickly.
The older Terminal 2 does not have the link to the Train . So you need to go to Terminal 1 in order to go to the Train link .
We ended up walking between the 2 terminals which took an age . There is meant to be a shuttle as well.
If you get the Train to Sants Station you can get off and then switch to a metro .
This was the most straight forward for us as we needed to go to on the Blue line Metro.
I found the Train from airport still the most straight forward . When we got to the train there was one of the staff members there and in broken Catalon she told and put in the money into the slot for a card- We got the T-10 -
I found this the most easiest way especially as you would use the Metro alot . It cost 7.35 in Euros and it is multi personal . 10 Journeys can be used and it was very handy so that you did'nt have to be going to your purse all the time.

BCN

.
.
Barcelona has ONLY ONE airport:
Barcelona – El Prat (BCN)

However, Ryanair advertises Girona (GRO) or Reus (REU) as "Barcelona", being these far away (80-100 km). GRO is convenient if going to Costa Brava / Catalan Pyrenees, REU if going to Costa Dorada, Tarragona, Port-Aventura, etc., but usually not the "best" option when your destination is Barcelona itself (unless the airport of departure is more convenient for you)

Some low-cost companies use BCN (Easyjet, Vueling, Air Berlin...) in addition to the biggies (Iberia, Spanair, Air France, BA...) check all possibilities, the regular companies sometimes have even better offers than the "cheap" ones!

BCN has LOTS of shopping and eating possibilities, so it's not a bad place to wait. The fashion shops have the same prices than at the city center, and you can find most Spanish brands there. As well, you can do there the last minute shopping of your souvenirs.

The Renfe Rodalies/Cercanías Line 2-Nord links the airport with Sants startion and Passeig de Gràcia (in the very center of the city) as well with El Clot and other stations that probably are less useful for a tourist. Please be aware this train does NOT reach Estació de França (old airport line did!).

The trip does cost less than 3€ but you can use as well a T-10 card or other transport cards, making it even cheaper! Not the best option with luggage or babies, as there is quite a long walk to the airport station, and some stairs. Trains do leave every 30 min. The airport is a terminus station and only line 2N reach it, so no worries, you can't get lost taking a wrong train in the wrong direction!

The train station is next to the T2 (old terminal B), it should be reaching the new T1 in the future, but so far there is a (free) shuttle bus between terminals, about every 10 minutes.

Also you can get there by bus: Aerobús Traveling with luggage, apart from taxis, IMO this is the best option (no stairs). One way: 4.25 €, round trip: 7.30€. Buses depart every 10-15 min in front of each terminal.

Regular bus #46 links BCN airport with Pl. Espanya, but it takes a long time. You can buy a single ticket (1.45€) or use the T-10.

If you prefer to take a taxi, there are ranks of these in from of each terminal exit, and usually you can take one immediately or just after queuing a few minutes. You should pay what the taximeter shows, plus a few euros of airport supplement and about 1 € per each piece of luggage. An average total to the city center would be about 25-30 €.

TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM AIRPORT

Hola Vince, It is very simple. Pls. don't let directions confuse u nor go astray! Make your trip to your hotel simple yet economical. Take the shuttle bus which we call AERO BUS. As you exit the costoms at the airport,go through those tinted black doors which automatically & lets u exit. Now your amongst the public. Keep walking straight where all those taxis anxiously waiting for passengers...look right about ten feet away would be the que for the AERO BUS, these is colour dark blue and yellow. Have at least 15 euros change, and I will explain later why. Lets make believe your inside the AERO BUS. Get off at the last stop which is called PLAZA CATALUNYA (which is right infront of our famous EL CORTE INGLES). You can either take a cab to Hotel Universal, take the Linea 3 right at Plaza Catalunya or if your young and energetic with a good city map you can easily walk it which would be a good 15 minutes. Taking a cab from Plaza Catalunya would cost you about seven euros, no need to tip the driver, however, taking the cab remember you will be charge plus one euro for your luggage. Now taking the Linea 3 get off at Parel. As you exit the metro walk towards the right side and you will see your hotel from there. Now that your in that area which can be quite busy specially in the dark, please be sure to secure your personal belongings, pickpocketing is so rampant not particularly in that area but because you are now in a very rampant pickpocketing favous beautiful city, just like any other famous city, you will always have many pickpocketing. Make copies of all your important documents, your passport, your credit card, your airline tickets and so forth, anything you hate to loose, make copies of it. Your hotel is a stone through from Las Ramblas so that is the cream of the cream, you will have a great time in that area but extra careful specially in the dark streets. Have a happy holiday and have great memories of beautiful Barcelona. Should you need more information how to get to the city from the airport, take few minutes and read our homepage with the title 'transportation to and from the airport'. CHEERS!

Vueling plane at Bcn airport

I used Vueling Airlines, a Spanish low cost company to travel from Athens (return ticket for 135 euro). The international airport of Barcelona is always busy of course but have in mind that some airlines like RyanAir fly to Girona which is 100km away from Barcelona and the bus to Bcn will take about 75 minutes!

The airport of Barcelona is 12km away from the center and you have 3 ways to reach the center:
1)taxi, an expensive solution but safe and comfortable expecially if you have heavy luggages and the only one after midnight anyway although there must be a local night bus
2)Renfe train, it costs 2.80euros and you can stop at Passeig de Gracia station (main train station) and change for the metro (single ticket 1.35euro), the green line will take you to Plaza Catalunya where most of the travelers go. Have in mind that many metro stations have a lot of stairs. Instead of the single ticket you better buy a T10 ticket which is 10 rides on metro/bus for 7.70euro. I used the T10 for the Renfe train but still I’m not sure if it was legal or not.
3)Aerobus shuttle bus. It costs 4.25euros and takes directly to Catalunya station. Watch out for your luggage (and your wallet) upon your arrival

Travelling with (young) kids.

Sam and Iris at the Airport of Barcelona.

Are you nervous about taking your baby or child on a plane trip? You aren't alone, most parents are nervous about it. We have moved with Iris and Sam Tarragona Corfu by plane this holiday and drove some distances by car on the island itself and we learned a few things that hopefully will help you.

General:
Bring books, old favourite toys and new surprise toys. Do remember that balls are not a good idea as they can end up anywhere! Our best buys were definitely books, especially sticker books are great! They can peel the stickers off, are glossy, have thick pages to turn easy, have bright colours and come in endless subjects. They're a nice break from the other books your child might be tired of, too. Put aside fears of setting poor eating habits, and bring on the snacks! We told Iris: “Welcome to the world of boredom eating."

Plane:
If your child is big ask for earplugs as soon as you board the aircraft. Make use of them for take-off then save them for landing as the crew may not have any fresh ones left by then. Also let them eat candies, this helps the kids tremendously if they don't know how to pop their ears.

Car:
Toy bars meant for stroller use are a big help in the car, as they often feature toys plus a snack cup, and are big and easy for you to grab from the front seat for refills. During the car trip it’s always a good idea to play a game and sing some songs. It sounds rather easy, but it does work!

Finally:
We only have one last statement! Just do it! Don’t be afraid that it might go wrong. We have learned this, because we have been travelling with Iris from the beginning. She was only 6 weeks young when we had our first short vacation and stayed in a hotel. Iris has been used to it rather fast and (maybe because of it) has always been an easy kid to get along with.

Vueling Airlines

We used Vueling airlines to travel from Paris to Barcelona. Originally we were going to take an overnight train, but the overnight trains were just as expensive, if not more and were segregated by gender unless you payed extra for a private car. I found Vueling on my internet search and realized that this route would be easier. Vueling is a Spanish airline and very reliable. It was about an 1.5 hr flight from Paris to Barcelona and everything was on time. The plane was large and well maintained. Along with that, the airport in Barcelona is so close to the main tourist area- it is just a short, cheap bus ride to Placa Catalunya. Vueling not only flies from Paris to Barcelona, but includes many other cities in Spain, Rome, France, and Portugal.

Madrid airport

We flew from Johannesburg to Barcelona via Madrid.
I did not hear many positive comments about Iberia before, but it was not a bad experience. There is actually no inflight entertainment worth watching in economy class.
The cabin crew we had on both trips were friendly and helpful.
The prices on Iberia were also a bit cheaper than most other European airlines flying from South Africa

TV in plane, where we can follow the flight path

We were travelling to Barcelona from Helsinki, Finland by Finnair plane.
From Estonia to Helsinki we got by hydrofoil ship (1,5 hour)

They (Finnair) using Boeing planes. The food was good.
On flying time they were offer the free alcohol (wine, sparkling wine).

There were tv in plane, where we can follow the flight path, and commercial.

When we return back from Barcelona, there was the radio with ear muffs.

Helsinki Vantaa airport is good and comfortable airport.
Barcelona airport is quite good too ... and much bigger ...

From Barcelona airport to city you can drive by local transport, bus number. 46 (Pl. Espanya).
Usual local price of ticket. We drive with ticket for 10 time. Price was in may 2007 - 6,90 EUR, which made the price for 1 ride 0,69 EUR (today i think, the price is higher)
10 time tickets you can buy from kiosk in railway station. To railway station you can go by tunnel bridge (Look the photo)

Bus-stop is before the terminal B.
There is some shuttle buses too, but they are more expensive
With local transport and timetables you can read up on in here

i always took Girona to be an access point for the Costa Brava not Barcelona as Ryanair advertise but at least they put transport into Barcelona on - we flew into Bergamo which Jet2 advertise as Milan and its about the same distance away from Milan as Girona is to Barcelona - there is an airport bus running but i think thats an Italian run one - doesn't matter as long as you get there -and realise there is usually a good hours journey invilved to and from the cheaper airlines - the only advantage in that is you get to see some of surrounding countryside - assuming the flight isn't at silly oclock ( my terminlogy for either very early or very late flights) which many of these cheaper airports use

Have fun in Spain
