By plane -airport is only a stone's throw from the city.
Motorway is also convenient when travelling from France or so.
Taxis are dead cheap. Even when the taxi driver cheats you and takes detours you still do not pay a lot.
Tube and buses are also very cheap.

Since I arrived from USA, I traveled by Air. We flew from Detroit to Frankfurt, then to Barcelona.
The Metro is excellent as in most European cities. It's inexpensive, reliable, and very clean. We also took a taxi from Princessa Sofia to downtown for a reasonable rate.

Plane: Barcelona has an international airport with a reliable shuttle service to various stops in the center.
On foot, by bus or subway. The system is easy to understand and Public Transport offers various types of tickets (1 day, 3 days etc.) that will allow you to use both the buses and the subway trains. Official cabs are easy to recognize by their yellow/black colors.
