Sitges is a beautiful sea side town only 35 kilometers south of Barcelona. It has a long beach, several restaurants, cafes and shops.
In this town there are three museums to visit. These were closed when we went there, because of a public holiday. One of the museums (or two...I don't know) is in the Maricel Palace. This is made of a group of buildings behind the old church. This palace looks like a white citadel.
I went to Sitges from Barcelona by train. I took it from Passeig de Gracia train station. You could also take one from Sants station.
A visit to the Vall de Boi is a wonderful excursion from Barcelona. Although it can be done in a long day, 2 or 3 days is better if you have the time. The valley is on the west side of the National Park of Aiguestortes and Estany of Sant Maurici. In the valley are several small towns linked by hiking trails. You can explore wonderful 12th century churches and see evidence of the Romans who settled the valley in the first century. In the summertime there are many concerts dances, and other festive events.
A 19th century spa offers luxury accommodation, but I prefer the Hostal Pascual, a centrally located family-run pension which provides nice rooms in a woodsy setting with excellent meals and very reasonable prices.
You can take a taxi into the national park and spend the day walking the trails from easy strolls to challenging hikes, and spend a night in a mountain refuge if you choose.
Vall de boi is a charming place which offers something for every taste.
Fondest memory: My fondest memory of Barcelona is spending at night in the Parador de Cardona, located a short drive outside of Barcelona. It is a 9th century castle on a hilltop converted into a luxury hotel. The rates are very reasonable for the chance to live and dine like a king.
See the cathedral, especially the creation tapestry in the Old cathedral, then walk around the Paseo Arqueologico from just above the cathedral for splendid views.
Fondest memory: Gerona
The Creation Tapestry - and they are not normally my scene at all.
ARAGON PYRENEES - JACA AREA
Get train from Huesca to Canfranc and bus on into France. It used to mean getting or taking some francs into Spain - I am quite pro-Euro myself! Last part of the journey is nothing wonderful but for about 2 thirds of the way through France it's glorious scenery. See also Mustsees, transport and accommodation.
Fondest memory: In this area travelling by bus from (H)echo to Anso after a mighty storm with the last qurater hour of sunlight breaking through at the top.
(Photo - 9th Century monastery at Siresia above Hecho (or Echo) and just before the Pyrenees proper)
Go to Taull, the next village up from Boi. It actually has two pre-9th Century Romanesque churches.
There is a lot of building going on and although it is generally in good taste, it is better to go sooner than later!
Fondest memory: Getting off the bus near Sant Climent in Taull in time for breakfast.
It is located 12 km from the Roman city of Tarragona and 80 km from cosmopolitan olympic Barcelona, close to the El Císter tourist route, Port Aventura theme park, the nature park of the Ebro Delta, several golf clubs and a wide variety of cultural, sporting and recreational facilities.
Magical surroundings for a magical town: a symbiotic balance between the ancient past and the dynamic present.
A history going back to Roman and Feudal times, and a rich nightlife with something for all tastes and all ages.
Well, I'm not really from Barcelona (BCN)city, but I live 55km in the north of it.
I live in a small village of about 3000 inhavitans called Hostalets de Balenyà, placed + or - in the centre of the Catalonia region in Spain,in a area called Osona.
Fondest memory: Our area: Osona, is also called La Plana de Vic, becasuse of it's shape and its location.
I'ts a flat region surrounded by mountains exept for a small opening in the south part that opends its way to BCN.
If u want to see more detailed where I exactly live and all the interesting things u can see, visit, do... in the area visit this page:
Wait u there
TARRAGONA Very interesting roman remains and generally very pleasant seaside city.
Fondest memory: At last finding somewhere to stay during a taxi strike!
