Statue in the roundabout in Plaça d'Espanya

Plaça d'Espanya is one of Barcelona's most important squares, built on the occasion of the 1929 International Exhibition, held at the foot of Montjuïc, in the Sants-Montjuïc district.

    Seaside Barcelona at night

Barcelona is a beautiful city, even at night. Many streets look gorgeous with lights, many buildings show a different face when illuminated, and there are several points where you can have a better view of the whole place. I recomend two where you don't have to pay a cent and are quite easy to reach: the mountain/hill of Montjuïch (close to the port), and the mountain of Tibidabo (where you can enjoy a great view while sitting confortably and having a drink or even some meal). The former is easier to access, as you can get a short taxi ride (5 minutes or less) from any well comunicated place or some of the buses or even the tram (if on duty at that hour), and enjoy all the night long at any of the music bars on the way (after/while having some views)

Dress Code: Not special, but if you're entering a non public place (like one of the view bars like Mirablau or Mirabé, which often have pretty good music), you will probably be required to be minimally dressed (at least a T-shirt and some covering of upper legs :-), and better a non only-sport ugly shoes, just in case...

Siteseeing at Night: Magic Fountains - Placa Espanya

    by tango_jd Written Jun 9, 2005

    The magic fountains were spectacular!
They start at approx 10.00pm and last for about 1 hour.
CHECK first - they don't show all the year round and I am not sure if they are on every night.
The walk from the Ramblas is long and boring so take the metro to Placa Espanya.
Get there early for a seat at a bar or a good place on the steps of the palace - BUT - don't drink a lot! There are only two small toilets at the bars there, and they start to queue-up very soon after 9.00pm. Women especially have to wait for ages for the toilet!
(TIP - walk along the Placa Espanya towards the towers and use the loos in the big hotel there - they are wonderful and clean! )

Take photos or video - they look great!

Dress Code: Dress for the weather - nothing special.

This is a very nice place to have a coffe or a drink. Is located at Tibidabo mountain just in front of the Funicular.
There is a view point or terrace with stools inside the bar, where you can enjoy a drink while you are seeing almost all the city.Even though I've visited this place in afternoon, the night views of the city are beautiful.

    Nighttime architecture view

As a break from normal nightlife, take one night when you go out to just check all buildings and architecture. Even buildings that might not look so fun during daytime might become something else during the darker hours.

For those in search of an enjoyable night out on the town, the problem might be choosing what would be most to your liking from among all that Barcelona has to offer. To start off, you could drop into one of the city's many champagne or cocktail bars. The night, however, might also begin at a good restaurant, choosing from among a wide and varied range that includes authentic food from around the world, in addition to the traditional Mediterranean cuisine of the city.

For dancers, everywhere around the city are found discotheques, clubs and dance halls. For those who prefer to enjoy their music without having to move their bodies, the best thing to do is head off to one of the city's many live music clubs, offering almost daily shows in every style, from jazz and blues to African music, classical and flamenco. Visitors who feel the need to express their own musical talents can try out a karaoke club. Nor should we forget about other attractions of Barcelona by night: the theatre, the cinema, the popular fiestas that dot the calendar and the outdoor clubs with music for all tastes.

    Wow!!!

Placa Espanya is another gateway to Montjuic hill. There are many fountains there, till the top, where the Museum National d' Art de Catalunya (MNAC, it has many collections of art) stands proud.
It is too spectacular to watch the different colours and shapes of the waterfalls as the music is being changed... Don't miss it!

    casa batll at night...

barcelona... it really changes face at night... there's less traffic, fewer people and... some wonderful monuments and houses all get lit up, revealing a different side of them!
The modernist houses in paseig de gracia (eixample) seems completely different when it's dark, while the old houses in the barrì gotic become gloomy and spooky... what can i say? barcelona by night is definitely something else.

Dress Code: comfortable walking shoes are a must

THE SAGRADA FAMILIA was started in 1882 and as you can see from the scaffolding it is far from complete. Maybe thats the way Gaudi wanted it..a perpetual 'work in progress'...he dedicated most of his life to this building. It is expected to take at least another 50 years to complete. There is an elevator to the top of a spire..

    Bodega

The Bodegas are bars, or sometimes of simple barrooms, where you will be able to make the feast very late... sometimes, the alcohol and the hot and festive ambiance permit some surprises...
