    nice show

I think this is really an off the beaten path activity because I presume nobody goes to Barcelona to watch dancing water fountains :-)

But, if you go to Barcelona in the summer you shouldnt miss this one. At the Plaza de Espanha, close to the Montjuic and just a few meters away from the Castilho (Musem of catalan art), there is a very big water fountain that dances to classical music.

It is a really beautiful show and it happens during the summer starting 5 pm every day. It is also a good way to have some rest because generally by the end of the day your feet can be killing you!

  • Me and my bike tour group! - Barcelona
Me and my bike tour group!
    by danielcv
Wanna see every corner of Barcelona? Get a bike tour! It is fun, healthy and cheap.

The tours generally start at the Colon statue at the end of Las Ramblas. They can give you a very complete view of this beautiful city. As Barcelona basically stands on a flat terrain, dont worry about doing too much effort to follow the group - although the tour is shaped for the young traveller if you are fit you wont have any problems.

I advise you to buy a water bottle and bring it with you in a backpack as Barcelona can be really hot during the summer. Besides, have fun and take great pictures of the very narrow alleys that you can only see if you are riding a bike or if you are walking.

On our second day of our visit, we met up with Marie (Marikitt) and she adviced us when we were standing at the Plaza Catalunya to go up the El Conte Ingles building at the corner, go all the way up to the cafetaria and have a nice view on the square down below us.
    She was right!
It was a marvelous view, pity the glass prevented us from taking the pics we would have loved to take, but Diamonddog managed to take this nice one!

There's a lift that goes up the column which is easy to miss if you don't know to keep your eyes out for it. Once you're up, you get a good view of Barcelona and the sea. You can take photos all the way round the column to get a panoramic view :)
During summer time I imagine it might get a bit crowded up there but when we visited in March, we didn't have to queue at all and spent about 20mins up there. Worth a look! :)

The entrance fee is 2,20e adults/ 1,40e children (March 2006).
    Opening hours are Monday-Sunday 10am-6.30pm (1 Oct - 31 May) and Monday to Sunday 9am-8.30pm (1 Jun - 30 Sept).

One of my favourite streets in BCN...it worth while to take a look ....begins in the corner with Ferran st and end in Ample st closer to the harbour....parallel to the rambla offers such attractions as many great shops ..great restaurants ..my friend's bar BAR AVINYO just in one corner at the left side going down... ( so easy to see) take a look inside of this small and typical catalan bar ask for PACO..here is the manager and tell him that you are coming on behalf of me !!
Also there are this building that you can see in this pic. Its the Arts and occupations school.

  • I first saw these on the television when the Olympics were held in Barcelona and vowed to see them in reality one day. However, many books and certainly local people we asked, had never heard of them, and finding information about when they are switched on was almost impossible to find.

Suffice it to say that it is several evenings a week. You can stand on the steps behind to get a birds eye view. It is better to see them when it is completely dark as the floodlighting is fantastic.

Use Espanya Tube Station and you can see the fountains from there - 10 minute walk to get right to them.

Beware of pick pockets whilst watching the show.

This was the first picture I (Barb's son) took in Barcelona. It is of the Bull Ring - there are still bullfights in Barcelona every Sunday througout the summer. However I think it is being turned into something else.

The other pictures are things that I don't know what they are. I took them from the Turistic Bus. One is of an obelisk that looks like the Washington Monument and the statue at the bottom of it.

This is something I liked of BCN. You can find palm trees in the most unexpected places and corners. And this trees give the city a defined mediterranean flavour, a certain exotic touch.
This places are like urban oasis in a way...

Do you remember the end of Pedro Almodovar's film "Everything about my mother"? They were shooting it right here in this cementery. It looks quite amazing... Not sure if I can say that cementery is beautiful but this one indeed looks interesting.
