Tibidabo Amusement Park is a magical place and a true Barcelona landmark. Located on top of Mount Tibidabo, 512 m above sea level, it is the highest point on the Collserola Ridge, a magnificent natural park with ten million trees. And all this with the city of Barcelona as an exceptional backdrop.

Spent a great day here and its not just for the Young stunning views as well, used the public bus

Take metro L7 to it's final station 'Av. Tibidabo'. Right across the street in Avinguda del Tibidabo you'll find the stop of the blue vintage tram 'Tramvia Blau'.
Ride the tram uphill to the station at 'Plaça Dr. Andreu', and from there go on a scenic funicular ride all the way up to the top of the Tibidabo mountain.
In case the tram doesn't run there will be a replacement bus service to where the funicular starts.

Not the highest mount on the world but I was curious to go up there to this hill and check the church and that antenna that we were looking from distance so many days.

Tibidabo is standing at 517 meters and on its slope is situated the huge Parc de Collserola (65.000sq meters). At this parc is situated the telecommunication tower (Tore de Collserola) which is 560 meters over the sea lever. There is a lift that will take you to the top. I guess it will be nice up there but we didn’t try it.

First we stopped for some panoramic photos (pic 1) over the city at a platform where many couples go during the sunset. Then we went up to visit the church Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor (church of Sacred Heart) (pic 2) with the huge of Jesus Christ on the top of it (pic 3). The church was built in 1902 by Enric Sagnier and I loved the psychedelic colorful front door. The church is open 10.00-19.30 daily. By the way the name Tibidabo comes from the Devil’s temptation of Christ when he offered Jesus the world at his feet from a high mountain: ”Haec omnia tibi dabo si cadens aderaveris me” (all of this I shall give to you if you worship me)

It was quite chilly up there, we strolled around for a while. There were many families visiting the Parc d’Atraccions del Tibidabo, an amusement park that is opened from 1908 and reminded me of my childhood at the beginning of the 80’s, especially with the old vintage games like the wheel or the horses. Of course there are modern rollercoasters rides etc The entrance fee is 25euros (9 for children)There you can also find the Museu dels Automates, a colorful place with old games from amusement parks but unfortunately we didn’t have time for that.

We took some last photos of the view just about when the city started to lit (pic 4) and we returned back in the center over Plaza Espana. When we entered park Montjuic to take a night shot of the square I realized the beautiful lights over Tibidabo. It was a great last memory from Barcelona…

We went there by car but you can go by train (L7) to Plaza del Doctor Andreu and then take the funicular.

Natural Park in the highest hill of Barcelona (600meters) offers such a things like a recreation area for kids a impressive church on the top, telecomunication tower open in 1992 .

I'm referring to the area of Tibidabo just north of Gracia, the residential area (not the amusement park). It's a really beautiful place to walk around on a nice day. Some of the most expensive houses in the city are located up here, and you can get a glimpse of them if you start at the base of the Tibidabao funicular and walk your way down the winding road. Eventually you end up in Gracia, which is also a beautiful, upscale area that is a bit off the tourist radar. It's also more commerical than Tibidabo, and has alot of really nice local shops.

'Sure, you can get the mountain train to the top, but believe me, it's more fun walking up it' -that's what I told my mates as we stood outside the Mirablau bar, halfway up the Tibidabo. I won't write what they said to me, when, two hours later we eventually reached the top!

I was a little reluctant to visit this church way atop Tibidabo because my guidebook said it had little charm and wasn't much to look at. I stronly disagree with it. This church has lots of charm and it has tons of crowds flocking to it. In fact, it is also a must see because any skyline view of Barcelona has this church in it, and one is hard pressed not to be intrigued by it. We found it quite beautiful and the view just as stunning. Actually, you can pay 2 Euros and take the elevator up to the statue for a greater view.

At night, the church is floodlit, and in this state, forms a dramatic part of the Barcelona skyline. It must look awesome when it's wrapped in swirling mists.

The Parc d'Attracions funfair has a wonderful retro air and is not exhaustingly large or terrifying. In fact, a guy who is used to Amusement parks like Six Flags Great Adventure or Hershey Park, it can be a bit boring. Some of the attractions though date back to 1901 when the funicular first reached the top, and some from rennovations that took place in 1986. This is certainly a place enjoyed by mostly children, or a couple so in love with each other (honeymooners!) that anything silly would be romantic. You bet Liz and I loved it! :)

You can see the Foster Tower (the British architect, Norman Foster designed it) from virtually everywhere in Barcelona. Simply look inland (which is usually uphill) and raise your eyes to the left of Tibidabo and there it is - an elegant telecommunications tower soaring skyward. If you are going to visit Tibidabo you might as well visit the tower (there is a 360 degree enclosed viewing deck about one third of the way up). Just walk down the slip road next to the funicular down to the main road and strike off towards the tower. There is a lift [price to be inserted] up to the viewing platform. Worth a half-hour visit, perhaps combined with a trot along one of the woodland tracks (see my "Collserola Park" tip).
