Miscellaneous: Just wanted to highly recommend the travel app I took to Barcelona this Christmas on my iPhone called Sutro Media's Barcelona Unbound. You don't have to be online to use it, and it helped us find lots of neat stuff we'd never have found on our own..and the all important tapas bar recommendations were spot on. Thousands of pics too.

Miscellaneous: To Barcelona you should take La Ciudad de los prodigios written by Eduardo Mendoza. It tells the story of Onofre Bouvila, who comes to Barcelona as a poor boy and becomes a rich man in very different ways. The story is situated between the two world exihibitions in Barcelona. It tells a lot about the history of the city and ebout specific places and therefore it's almost a guide to the city. It's wonderful to read this in Barcelona!
The book in translated in English, German, Franch, Dutch, Catalan, Italian, Portugese, Japanese, Russian, Polish and a lot of other languages. Check the website and click traducciones to see if it's also translated in your language.

Miscellaneous: Take a free map of Barcelona at the Tourist Information. The map includes the locations of the main sights and a Metro plan.
Barcelona has a few Tourist Information offices all over the town. A centrally located office can be found at Placa de Catalunya.

Miscellaneous: FOREIGN CURRENCY:The Euro is now used in Barcelona. However if you don't take Euros with you, you can exchange cash or travellers cheques at any bank or exchange office. Rates are not fixed and vary from one place to another. Banks usually take commission. The exchange offices don't, but the rate is often not so good. In some offices, you can get a better deal on exchanging large amounts of money. Savings banks only open from Monday to Friday in the morning and Thursday afternoons. Banks also open on Saturdays. The exchange offices are found mainly in the centre of the city (The Rambla), at the airport and at the railway stations. Their opening hours vary, but some remain open till late, including weekends. If you're desperate, you can also exchange money at hotels, although most likely at a poorer rate.

Miscellaneous: As always when travelling, a Travel Insurance against theft and loss is a good idea. Also making photocopies of the important pages of your passport, and other important documents just may come in useful.
