 | | | | Textil Cafe: A trendy terrace into a medieval palace | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The terrace is the entrance patio from a middle-age building, Palace of Marquises de Llio, from XIII Century. Two interesting museums are located in this building (Textil and Pre-Columbine Art). Of course, you can eat inside, but it's not so special. You can eat reasonably well, all Mediterranean specialties, but be aware that portions tend to be too small. IMO it's a better place for having breakfast, or just a rest, sipping a good cafe or tea (my favourite is 'te a la menta', Moroccan-style tea with fresh mint). As a summary: one of the nicest places in the area (that it is as well one of the nicest areas of Barcelona). The shop of the Textil Museum is quite interesting as well, you can find good souvenirs. Plus: From March to December: Sunday evenings live Jazz sessions (5 euros entrance) Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Carrer Montcada, 12Phone: +34 932 682 598Directions: El Born, in front of Museu Picasso. | | | | Can Miralletes: Feeling the countryside… in the middle of the city | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
When you arrive to the place, the first though is: what does a “masia” (traditional peasant’s house) in the middle of Barcelona, close to Sagrada Familia and Hospital de Sant Pau? The building was there for centuries (it’s said to be at least 250 years old), before the city swallowed the surrounding countryside. Just a bit of land was left around the house, now a public square. The beautiful old structure of the building in full city makes it extraordinarily welcoming. The site specialties are traditional Catalan dishes, but somewhat different and nicely elaborated. There seems to be a very good deal with “menu del dia” at lunchtime: 12 €. It could be a very good option for those of you visiting the area, far enough from tourist traps around Sagrada Familia. There is also a “gourmet menu”, for 35 € (available at dinnertime as well), and of course you can made your own set of choices (“a la carta”). Once I was there celebrating a friend's birthday and we had a great time. Later (Dec 2006) I returned on Saturday ("menu del dia" option works only on workdays). Be aware that they charge 2 euros for every not-so-big loaf of bread!! It was a very good lunch indeed, even a bit expensive, and the service was quite slow.
