Various Gelato places: Gelatos for dessert
Try Crema Catalan flavored gelato. Here are the places on Ramblas I've tried; all of them have locations throughout the city:
Amorino - Rambla, 125. A nice brightly lit gelateria on the top end of Las Ramblas on your right hand side as you stroll down from Metro Catalunya.
Carte d'or Gelateria - as you stroll down on Las Ramblas, past La Boqueria marketplace, on the left side of Ramblas.
Dino - Rambla, 54 on the left hand side on the lower half of Ramblas going towards the sea.
BarCentral- La Boqueria: Estaba muy bueno!
When they say,do as the locals do.,then that's what we did. Went where everybody went, both locals and tourists, and went to "La Boqueria" off Las Ramblas. Whenever we visit a new city,it has been our practice to visit the market to see and check out the local produce. More or less, you get to taste the local food here in all it's nakedness,as compared to having it at some tourist-infested restaurant. The one reason that made me want to visit this place more, eventhough I have read that hordes of tourists come here, is, this place has remained the main and local source of daily fresh food for the locals.
We were hoping to go to Pinotxo, since we've read a lot of reviews about it,but it was close. Good thing, we found this small, bar like eatery inside the boqueria. I always like and prefer service with a smile, and that's what the charming senore gave us as we sat down. There are only a few chairs, so if you are not dying of hunger yet, then you just have to wait for a seat to be available. And it sure was worth the wait!
Favorite Dish: We had the mixed sea food salad,as like a starter, hmmmm, yummmmyyy....the seafood tasted fresh, and the dressing was sublime. Then we had the mixed grilled seafood. For 25 euros, there is plenty enough for 2 people. All in all we paid 32euros, that's including our drinks. Not bad at all, considering the food tasted really good, and the charning senore smile made us wanting to come back for more!

Food stall in La Mercat Boqueira: A foodie's delight right in the market!
On the leftmost side of the market as you enter is a food stall where fish, seafood, meat, and some vegetable dishes can be cooked in minutes in front of your eyes. This reminds me very much of street food stalls in Asia where only fresh ingredients are used, and several pans and pots are gurgling or fying away, and the smell of all this cooking makes you heady with hunger, it's impossible not to salivate and eventually you see yourself plopped in front of the stall, that is, if you can find a vacant seat or stool.
I don't remember the name of the place, but we were drawn in that direction as we were making our way around the market, mainly because of the irresistible smell of cooking, but also because we saw the place packed full, and with groups of people milling nearby waiting for places. These were of course signs that we had just bumped into an excellent local eating joint! So off we joined the milling groups.
The stall is really just the usual stall, nothing fancy, but it is clean, with stools around the counters on three sides, where you're faced with glass cases where they keep the fish, seafood, meat and vegetables, and other ingredients. From this array, the customer chooses and indicates how it is preferred to be done. Of course there is a list of dishes written on a small blackboard behind from which he or she can choose as well. There are a few small tables on the side, but since this place is always full, be prepared to wait. The waiting time is almost always longer than your actual eating time. Waiters take the orders even before you are seated, so you don't have to wait to be seated before ordering. In any case, the cooking is done practically Asian style -- in a pan that's always heated and ready, so food is done in no time.
As for price, it was more expensive than I expected, considering that it's not a "proper" restaurant. For a plate of shells, a mixed mushroom sauté, and a few pieces of a certain type of shell, and a can of coke, and small beer, we paid close to 50 euros.
This is a place you go to not for the ambience, for the effect, to relax, and for when you plan a romantic dinner. This is a place where you go to for the food -- good food.
Favorite Dish: What was special about this place is that they used very fresh ingredients, as one can see. The seafood was great -- done simply, in butter and garlic and herbs. I love the wild mushroom mix sauté -- with olive oil and garlic -- just perfect!

Pinotxo Bar - Famous in la Boqueria: Pinotxo Bar
Located in la Boqueria, Barcelona’s most famous market, Pinotxo (Catalan for Pinocchio) is just one of numerous stalls serving tapas. It is, however, considered one of the best ones at la Boqueria, which has earned it recognition and fame. Go there in the morning and have breakfast with cava. Let the animated chef choose the dishes for you… or if you feel like having the delicious octopus with lentils for breakfast, just order it!

Mercat Boqueria: LA BOQUERIA
La Boqueria, or Mercat St Joseph to give it its proper name, is a large food market situated right off Las Ramblas. This is where the local chefs apparently buy their ingredients so it if its good enough for them I guess its good enough for the rest of us. It is quite touristy given its location but its still a good place to come to get your fresh food for picnics and whatever. As well as the stalls there a couple of tapas bars within the market where you can sit and eat/drink.
Favorite Dish: I came here primarily at breakfast time since breakfast wasn't included where I was staying. There are loads of fruit stalls and many of them sell small [well varying sizes] tubs of mixed fruit salad & individual fruits ready to eat and with a fork - perfect for breakfast on the go! They were very popular as were the fresh fruit drinks that those stalls also sold. I tried a few and can recommend the mango and also the orange and papaya - YUM! :)
Mercat Boqueria: Bar Boqueria
On my last day in Barcelona I went again to "La Boqueria", this time to have a quick breakfast. We?ve been to Bar Boqueria and had some cortados and shared a bocadillo de lomo and a bocadillo de pollo. Obviously you can get much more and more special dishes on the market place such as fish plates or traditional spanish cuisine or as well all kind of fresh fruit drinks.
El Quim de la Boqueria: Just a quick bite... oh so nice
It's a great tapas bar in the middle of Boqueria Market. The food is fresh, tastes great, you don't wait too long (unless there are other people all around the bar waiting for their turn) and the surrounding is quite unique too.
Almejas or calamares are well worth trying!
La Boquería and La Oveja Negra: Don't miss the "patatas bravas" and "Sangría"
It's a very famous place in Barcelona to eat tipical sandwiches (or bocadillos) is "la boquería", a small place full of people trying to get one of theese sandwichs and drink special wine.... If you have Claustrophobia, don't enter... wait outside..hehehe.
And the other place (la oveja negra) is the best to drink the most famous and delicious Sangría.... the ambient is quite spanish, funny and relaxing.... there's no place to dance, only tables to drink with your friends and talk a lot...
Farmers Markets: Farmers Markets
Various meats, seafood, cheese, and produce at extremely low prices. A great place to buy some cheese, baguettes and berries on your way to the beach. The one near the train station has a couple of great tapas bars.
Favorite Dish: A huge carton of strawberries cost a single euro while I was there.
NO favourite place, my advice...
NO favourite place, my advice follow your nose it will lead you exactly to what you fancy at the time..
as fresh as it can be just check out the market at La Boqueria and you'll see for yourself.
Favorite Dish: just to nibble some tapas, something inbetween in summer a caspatcho, more solid something from the grill and always seafood to the limit!
There are plenty of...
There are plenty of restaurants with local food or fast food. But I prefer going to one of the covered markets, i.e. Mercat de Sant Antoni or Mercat Boqueria (Rambla street). There you can eat really authentic local dishes (fresh fish, meat, vegetables) at the lowest possible prices.
Favorite Dish: various shell fish dishes, and of course - black paella
Catalan cuisine is mainly...
Catalan cuisine is mainly based on products from the land which adapt to the different seasons and the region's cultural and religious traditions. Olive oil, aromatic herbs, dried fruit, nuts and fresh produce are the basis of 'market cuisine' which uses products found in the market during a particular season of the year in its dishes. The Boqueria, on La Rambla, is the city's flagship food market. Its colourful stalls, with their abundance of fruit, vegetables and fresh fish, are well worth stopping to admire.
Barcelona has a complete and varied choice of restaurants, ranging from the most sophisticated -many of them in the Michelin Guide - to small establishments with the taste and know-how of expert chefs, and also those specialising in fish, international and ethnic cuisine.
the best place to get FRESH...
the best place to get FRESH DELICIUS ingredients is MERCADO DE LA BOQUERIA, is like a museum, is in the ramblas.
Favorite Dish: anyone, there is no one I prefer, but what i really love is the food in Barcelona, is so diferent cause the ingredients and the OLIVE OIL.
Boqueria: Market Food
The food stands in La Boqueria (market) offer a variety of local food, wine, fresh juice/shakes, chorizos.
Just close to the rambla there is a big market with vegetables, meat, seafood, ham and many other food that will attract your eyes and your mouth.
