The Tapas Bar: Simple and effective

Nipped in Sunday lunch, just had a couple of drinks and Tapas, the anchovies and the tomato salad was lovely. Very laid back, only locals in except us, quite upmarket loko for what appeared to be a 'local'. Great ambience and very unhurried.

Favorite Dish: Tomato and feta salad

On our first visit to Barcelona (and indeed Spain), back in Oct 2003, we were new to the whole tapas thing and wanted to ease our way into it - a bit timid to go somewhere without an English menu (sad but true!). After a nice walk around the port area on our first evening we stopped into a busy tapas bar for a drink and snack.

Called Tapasbar Paradis, the restaurant is located by the water at Port Vell, and is part of the Maremagnum complex. I later learnt that it is part of a large chain of tapas bars.

Favorite Dish: To eat we had some Spanish omelette, jamon, and patatas bravas. Service was fine, the beer was cold and the food was tasty - the perfect first experience for tapas virgins!

Tapas Bar: Great variey and location

    Selection of yummy tapas.

A great little bar/cafe in a great location. We were lucky enough to get a sunny day so ended up spending hours there. It's has a great variety of yummy tapas but good for just a drink or two as well. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating too.
The staff are very friendly and accomodating, they even gave us a free large plate of tapas.

Favorite Dish: I would definitely recommend the green peppers and the vegtable tempura.
The mussels didn't look the best though.

    Tapas

For those who don´t have a large budget but want to try real tapas, I suggest to go to this non touristic restaurant, which lets you enjoy the food quietly and peacely.
Spirit drinks and beers are sold at a very affordable prices (from 1 to 4,50 €)
They show all the Barça football games.
It is a 10 minute ride from Plaza Catalunya and 5 minute walk from Gracia and 5 minute wallk from the disco district.

Favorite Dish: At summer you must not miss the Gazpacho.
Fried andalusian squid and "Patatas bravas" are the house specialty

by goglobe Written Aug 25, 2003
    enjoy tapas with a difference

You can have tapas anywhere in Barcelona, but here at TapasBar in the Port Vell mall, taste tapas with VollDamm while enjoying the great harbour view, or sit in open air and get a free breeze at evening time.

If you're in Spain, you must do as the Spanish do and eat tapas. I don't know which places are the best in town. I just wandered into a lot of them! What a great way to eat!

Favorite Dish: Sample all you can.

The prices are a bit higher than for example another tapas restaurant where I've eaten the night before, but here you also pay for the good atmosphere and the great quality of the food and sangria...

Only flaw is that every ten minutes some guy comes up to you with the purpose selling you an overpriced rose for the girls in your party.

Favorite Dish: The patatas bravas and garlic shripms are superb! Keep the windows open during the night otherwise the smell is terrible in you rooms the day after ;)

The atmosphere is great, Not too busy and not too quiet. Its a small place and was our regular at the end of every night. The barman Davide was great - he lookedlike Graham Le Saux and Matthew Broderick - but he assured me he wasnt either of them. Shame!

Favorite Dish: All the exquisite food that ive never tasted until i came here...snails,baby octopus, squids,Spanish pork scrathings!
And guess what - It all tastes like...CHICKEN!
