I spent three hours one night just wandering around. One of the upper floors 6-8 - I'm not sure - is the bargain floor! Lots of neat stuff. I wish I had gone back. Probably the best part is the supermarket downstairs below the main level. It's a great place to shop for local goodies and to find lots of yummy things to bring home to friends and family. I bought coffee, chocolate, cookies and more. It was fun to just wander around. I felt very safe in Placa Catalunya even at 10 p.m. After all, that's just when dinnertime starts!
What to buy: El Corte Ingles also has a nice tourist shop. A bit pricier than shopping at the tourist shops on Las Ramblas but some nice things.
What to pay: Coffee, chocolate and cookies were very reasonable.

El Corte Ingles is usually quite big but the one on Plaza Catalunya is just enormous. You can find anything you like here but it might not be the cheapest choice. Even buying groceries is more expensive here than in other shops.

You will find El Corte Ingles in all of the bigger Cities in Spain. In Barcelona alone there are 4 locations. I visited the location at Pl. de Catalunya at the head of Las Rambles.
The grocery section of all El Corte Ingles stores can be found in the basement. This is a great place to go if you're looking to pick up some groceries for a picnic, need to grab a quick bottle of water or soda or just want to have a look around to see what they eat in Spain. You'll find everything that you need at reasonable prices here.
Head upstairs to the ground floor and in most The grocery section of all El Corte Ingles stores you will find gifts, souvenirs, jewelry, perfume and sometimes toiletries.
On to the first floor (second floor for those in the US) and above you will find clothes for men and women, sporting goods, luggage, a travel agent, etc... This place has everything and is very convenient.
What to buy: You can buy just about anything that you need at El Corte Ingles from groceries to clothing, from luggage to airplane tickets and from Antonio Bandaras cologne to a snow globe with a bull in it.
What to pay: Prices at El Corte Ingles are very reasonable. I prefer to go here to stock up on water for the day as the prices are much less expensive. For example, you might pay up to 1 Euro for a small bottle of water in a random shop in a tourist area. At El Corte Ingles you can pick up a large bottle for about .40 Euro.

Bacelona has about 6 or 7 or maybe even more of these big department stores, El Corte Ingles. The biggest mumma of all is in Plaza Catalunya, the center of the city, and it actuallyonly has half the shop in as the other half is in a different (big) builing about 100 meters away (Portal de´l Angel) What's good about them? ot much. But they have got it - whatever it is. And I had a nice picture of the odd looking building so....
What to buy: In Catalunya they make Cava - Spanish Champagne. That is worth buying.

El Corte Inglés is a very big chain of department stores in Spain. Throughout the city of Barcelona you can find a lot of them. The biggest one you can find on Plaça Catalunya. I found another one somewhere in the business district near the Intercontinental hotel, which had great x-mas lights.

This department store has pretty much everything you need. Look in the basement for the grocery store which has a nice deli to take things back to your room if you want.
