Bike lanes
  • Tip Rating:
  • In some of BCN streets you can find these bycicle lanes, allowed only for bikes.
Though it might seem a good idea, as BCN is mainly flat, the parts of the avenues with this are not big, so they are interrupted soon and you have to go down and continue by the sidewalk.
There is a coincidence. They make new bike lanes just before the elections, politicians come to be pictured opening them, but the thing stops after election time... :-(

The stadium Camp Nou (like most others) was built to create a brilliant atmosphere for Barca's matches. So don't pay 4 Euro to see Barca's tin cups ans old jerseys in the museum-try to get tickets for a match. Tickets available at the ticket office near Camp Nou or at Servi Caixa in town.
Moreover the black market is always alive, but avoid the shabby old men with the pocket calculators, they are only there for profit. Better try to find some handsome fans who have tickets left. Enjoy it.

You get it there, a cold beer and real Barca-crisps.

This sentence seems to be the unofficial slogan of the soccer club Football Club Barcelona.
This team has always been a identity sign of Catalunya, and recently it is more than a club in the sense that is a commercial emporium too, with shops all over selling any item you can imagine.
This pic was taken at the shop in El Prat Airport.

If you like swimming/diving, then you must come to this place, as this was the setting for the diving competition at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and also for Klie Minogue's video, 'slow'!
It has stunning views of the city.
Entrance to the pool is about 5 euros.

Without a doubt, the Camp Nou Stadium is a must for lovers of football (soccer as we call it here in the states). It opened in 1957 and holds 100,000 spectators, and has been named a 5-star stadium, the highest distinction awarded by the UEFA, due to the quality of its facilities. As a visitor, you get to the see the stadium through the player's eyes and gain access to the dressing room area, the pitch, and sit on the benches where the world's top footballers have been. Americans won't be too interested in this, but Europeans will jump on this place!

Estadi Olimpic de Montjuic: BARCELONA OLYMPIC GAMES 1992- Stadium
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Estadi Olimpic was inaugurated in 1929. Today it can contains 50000 spectators. The "old" part of the Stadium was totally rebuilt for the Olympic Games in 1992.
The façade still remembers the origin of the arena. In the back of the Stadium there is the "Galeria Olimpica", that narrates with videos, posters and images the history of the Olympic Games of 1992.

We are quite sure football lovers will spend much time at the football stadium (Camp Nou). Camp Nou is presently considered the largest within Europe, which accommodates 120,000 people.
To get to Camp Nou, take the blue line or Line 5 (Directions: Cornellá) and get off at Collblanc. Once you get off Collblanc, it is approx. 20 minutes easy walking to the front entrance. (Incidentally, please do not make a mistake of purchasing the one day or the one week metro (or underground tickets), always purchase the T-10 which only cost 6.30 Euros, given a ten journey, you are others may share the same ticket simultaneously & it metro tickets expires in one year date).
It is best to get to Camp Nou around 10 in the morning to give you ample of time to enjoy everything they have to offer tourists. Visit the FC Barcelona Museum; the cost per head is 9 Euros. It is approximately 45-50 minutes tour (tour is also available in English). The tour includes visiting the museum, dugouts, the players locker rooms, the press conference room after the games, also you are allowed to step on the grass, seat on the Presidential Box & all the photos you wish to take is allowed what is more interesting is you & everyone else can even go on the Presidential VIP seats and hold the replica of the European Cup.
A week ago, we hosted some football admirers & they got to Camp Nou after 3pm, it was their last day here in Barcelona & was not able to see much, this is the reason why we are suggesting for you to get to Camp Nou early enough & would not miss anything. Should you wish to purchase T-Shirts of Barça, it is always best to purchase it at Camp Nou as we have seen many imitations being sold at Las Ramblas.
Have a wonderful & safe time here in Barcelona. We wish to add one more thing; we are advising you and everyone to please do wear a money belt, wear those money belts while in Barcelona for peace of mind and great pre-cautions. Cheers to all,

Estadi Olimpic de Montjuic: Olympic Stadium
  • Tip Rating:
  • I first really learned about Barcelona during the '92 Olympics, so it was natural to visit the stadium, and walk around Montjuic too. You're able to walk right into the stadium. The soccer club was just starting practice when I was there. Good thing too-an empty stadium can be a little boring!

The one view I really wanted to find was from the diving arena-the city view was so great on TV during the games. I found it by accident, but the arena wasn't open. Even behind the gates, it was a good view.

The Estadi Olimpic was built for the 1929 Universal Exposition. Its opening football (soccer) match was a victory for the Catalan side against Bolton Wanderers--little known fact I got from my guidebook. It remained open until the Mediterranean Games in 1955, then fell into disrepair. Extensive works for the 1992 Olympics involved lowering the arena by 11 meters to creat the extra seating needed for 55,000 spectators. Most of the track and field events and teh opening and closing ceremonies were held here (remember the archer lighting the torch way above the stadium?).

Today the stadium is used for mutiple events. Here you see it being prepared for an event sponsored by "La Caixa" a large Barcelona bank.
