The stadium seems small when you enter it, but it does have a 65,000 capacity. The stadium was in fact built and opened in 1929, and was totally restored for the Olympics. The dish holding the Olympic flame is a little disappointing, and has the added issue that the archer who was to set it alight actually missed it. However the organising committee considered this and it was so full of gas that the arrow had to passwithin 2 metres to set it alight. The world saw the flame lighting!
The stadium is now the ground of Espanyol FC.
Here plays the second team of the city, RCD Espanyol. This stadium was inaugurated in 1922 and renovated in 1992 for the Olympics Games.
Capacity: 56,000 seats
Pitch dimensions: 105*67
Real name: Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys
Barcelona's got two main football teams, Barcelona FC & the Espanyol. The Espanyol's Stadium is at the top of Montjuic, next to the Palau St. Jordi. The location is great & you get a breathtaking view of BCN from up there.
This is the Olympic torch as lit for the duration of the Games,I tried to get a photo of the torch with the sun behind to show it "lit".
