Casa Batlló is on of the buildings that make up a famous block of building called 'Mansana de la Discòrdia' or 'The Apple of Discord'. Gaudí designed this house for Josep Batlló Casanovas which was constructed between 1904-1907. The Barcelona people of the time were stunned by this building, and soon it became known as 'the house of bones' and 'the house of yawns'.
The building is magnificent in all aspects. On the façade, undulating and covered with mosaic, colour takes front of stage. The fine columns of the galleries take are tibias covered with sprouting plant froms and the balconies appear to be bare skulls.
Not only the façade is worth seeing but also the interior. Gaudí really did everything he could to keep you looking at every little detail. There is a central sort of courtyard from which the walls are totally blue. On one ceiling one can see a dot surrounded by some 20 other dots. No-one knows exactly what this symbolises. It could be a drip of water and the surrounding dots symbolise the flow of the water, but other guess Gaudí was thinking of a woman's nipple when creating this detail. There is also a fireplace with built-in benches beside it, all tucked into the wall in copper-coloured ceramic. The whole thing looks like a giant mushroom.
During Gaudí's year in 2002 the house was first opened to the public. Because of the overwhelming success the initiative may be continued in the future. If not you can always organise a meeting, dinner or seminar in the house which will get you into the house too, but I think this can be really expensive!
Gives a very good overview of what it looks like to live in the genious world of Gaudi. Even the smallest architectural originality is meant to be functionnal and practical. The form of the windows, the holes in the doors...
CASA BATLLÓ. It is like a chocolate cake!!!!!! I think I've been here millions of times and I've never been tired to see this building , it is my favorite!Admire again this Gaudí wonder in Passeig de Gràcia and don't forget to look at the streetlamps!
Visit Casa Batló.
Casa Batló is one of the most beautiful buildings in Barcelona. You should try to get inside also. It is said that this building doesn't have not even one straight line or one plane surface. For what i have seen not only from the exterior this is true!
Note that there are people living in the building so try not to disturb them. Imagine what will happen if every tourist in Barcelona goes in the building and making noise, etc.
We're coming back to the Passeig de Gràcia to visit the Casa Batlló, also built by Gaudí in 1905. The skin of a dragon and a lance, emulating Saint George tradition which is the patron saint of Catalonia, were represented in the roof. Nowadays, Casa Batlló can be rent for different events.
The Casa Batllo is simply stunning to look at. One can spend hours looking at the detail, trying to imagine all the nuances, let alone the interior.
There are lots of works designed by the world famous architect Antoni Gaudí and this Casa Batlló is one of them. It is residential building in the center of Barcelona,
Casa Batllo might very well have been my favorite sight in all of Barcelona. I highly recommend it as a stop.
It was the first Gaudi building that I visited and I really enjoyed the visit. I liked the attention to details and the creativity.
the entrance is a little expensive but who cares ...after all this is a Gaudi work
Thanks also to the rich people of Barcelona or Catalunya which gives a chance
To build this monumental houses
No words...just go visit it. The entrance to visit the 1st floor is 11 euros, the 2nd also 11 euros and the whole house 18 euros.
Casa Batllo was built between 1904 and 1906 in the city block known as "Apple of Discord". Casa Batllo was restored by Gaudi for the family of Jose Batllo.
The work of Antonio Gaudi with sparkling mosaic facade using dragon-like forms and punctuated with round ceramic plaques. It was built between 1904 and 1906.
CASA BATLO: Another of Gaudi's creation. I love the balcony... looks like those party mask (very romantic)! Such nice apartments they have in this city! Incredible!
Another Gaudi Masterpiece was the Casa Batllo. Very ornate construction with curves and colors and textures you don't see anywhere
