The Fundació Antòni Tàpies is immediately noticeable along Aragó because it is apparently the only fortified building along the street. In fact, the barbed wire up top is only for artistic flavour and there is no real threat to the building. The foundation was first established in the 1980s by the artist of the same name as a means of encouraging modern and contemporary art through lectures, colloquia, symposia and expositions. Today it hosts expositions of Tàpies' works, most of which are owned by the Foundation. The building itself is another example of great modernist architecture from the 1880s; it was the first building in the Eixample to combine exposed brick and iron.
The Antonio Tapies Foundation building was designed by him for a publishing company but in 1984 was converted by the artist himself toward the promotion and exhibition of modern art. The distinctive metal roof ornament was originally intented to resolve the differences in height with the buildings on either side, but was also the base for Tapies famous "Cloud and Chair" wire sculpture.
We didn't go into this, just saw it from across the road. If the intention was to outweird Gaudi, then I think they might have succeeded. I don't think it would be a good idea to visit during a storm, just in case lightning strikes.
Antoni Tàpies is said to be one of the best master artist of the 20th Century and he is perhaps the best-known Spanish artist to emerge in the period since the Second World War. The foundation was created in 1984 by Antoni Tàpies to promote the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art and it owns one of the most complete collections of Tàpies’ work. The building is a 19th Century modernist construction of Domènech i Montaner. It is crowned for the artist's sculpture "Cloud and chair", representing Tàpies' symbolic universe.

This 19th century building houses Antoni Tàpies work, a Barcelona native artist. The ironwork addition is in fact one of his works. Whether one finds this sort of art appealing or not, one must appreciate Barcelona's appetite for creative art.
Modernistic art museum,
the only thing we liked about the building was the wire sculpture on the roof of the building. Inside you could visit a temporary exhibition with traffic signs, audiovisual presentations and other things. Tapies' art was very modernistic, when you like mud on canvas or old clothes falling out of a cupboard, then you really must go and visit it. If you don't, stay away!
The Fundació Antoni Tàpies is another Domènech i Montaner work, built in 1886 for publishers Montaner i Simón and now skillfully converted to become what it is today. The best place to observe this building is from across the Carrer d'Aragó where you can get a full perspectie and pick out the chair in the Tàpies sculpture which crowns the building, Núvol i Cadira (Cloud and Chair).
The Fundació Antoni Tàpies is reputedly the first 'modernista' building, it seems rather workmanlike after the ornate facade of Gaudí's Casa Batlló. Inside is a large collection of the works of Antoni Tàpies considered my many to be Spains greatest living artist.
Building of the great architect Domènech i Montaner.
Façade orininally in stone but finally made of bricks to show decorative effects to remember islamic style.
Since 1990 the Tapies Fundation is located in this building. The sculpture is a work of Antoni Tàpies!
I like very much to visit this place. It is a permanent exposition of his work and temporary expositions. In this moments you can see: Representacions Àrabs contemporànies, Beirut / Liban.
It was not the inside that I found interesting but the outside...... The building looks very different and the art on the building is made by Tàpies...
Inside you will find temporary exhibitions and work from Antoni Tàpies and that's something you like or you don't...... I didn't.....
The Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies has his own museum at Carrer Aragó. The Fundació Tàpies was stabilised in 1990 at the Editorial Montaner building created by Lluís Domènech i Montaner more than 100 years before, in 1886. The work 'Cadira i Núvol' (chair and cloud) was set up in the roof of the building.
