    Fundació Joan Miró

    Fundaci Joan Mir

Along Avinguda de Miramar (within Montjuïc) one finds the Fundació Joan Miró. Its architectural design alone is enough to please the visitor but inside is one of the largest collections in the world of Miró's work. It includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and tapestries (yes he was certainly a jack of all trades) as well as his complete graphic work. Something about the Mediterranean luminosity floods the striking building and shows Miró's work in its best light.

    Fun and Funny Art!

    Miro Museum

The museum itself was wonderful. It had a lot of interesting pictures that were fascinating. One thing that I really liked about this museum is that it had pictures inside and then a number of sculptures outside so you were not confined to the inside of the museum. On top of that, there was a very interesting temporary exhibit Joan Brossa or the poetic revolt; this exhibit tended to be very interactive so everyone seemed to enjoy it.

It is a little outside the main area of Barcelona, which makes it a nice walk. I grabbed some sandwiches and ate them halfway to the museum. It was very nice.

Joan Miró is one of the most representative artists of Barcelona; you can find his works at different places of the city (and, of course, at his Foundation, situated at Montjuïc). The picture shows "Woman and bird", at Parc Joan Miró.

    The city of art

    Miro is my favorite artist!

Barcelona is one of the most artistic cities in the world: Picasso (his museum is located at an old mediaeval palace - Palau Aguilar. It is really good, although I liked more Picasso's museum in Paris), Dali, Miro and many other artists have given their constructive influence to the city.
This... strange item was made by Miro. Fundacio Miro was created by himself as an institute for the study of contemporary art, his unique work can be admired in paintings, tapestries, objects, pictures... Miro is my favorite painter and it was like a... heart attack for me when I came back to Athens and discovered that this particular film had been destroyed (have a look, also, on my Andros page - "general" tips)...

    STONE SCULPTURE BY JOAN MIRO

This work Miro created in 1968 and it is called: WOMAN WITH BIRD.

He, like all other artists, changed during his life.
Artists lives are like a stream, always moving forward and at the same time trying out new things, getting inspired by new things and more insight.......

I must say that I also love his early works, paintings, such as LA CASA DE LA PALMERA (1918) and RETRAT D'UNA VAILETA (1919)
    VERY MUCH!

Walking there at ease is a real pleasure.
One can also walk over the roof where also works of art are standing.....

In the next photo I shall show you the building.

Probably the best and most diverse collection of art by Joan Miró, paintings, sculptures, ceramics and tapestry. You can get a free headphone to guide you through the many rooms of this museum on Montjuic.

Aside from Gaudi and Picasso, Catalunya also fathered another great artist: Joan Miro. Although he spent most of his time in Spain on the island of Mallorca, much of his work resides in Barcelona. The Fundacio Joan Miro on Montjuic has a huge collection of his paintings and sculptures, and there's a park named after him near Placa de Espanya with a huge sculpture he designed (pictured).
