colorful fruit at the La Boqueria Market by danielcv The La Boqueria Market is definetly a dont miss tip. The Mercado is located in the middle of Las Ramblas and it a upbeat and colorful place. If you are staying at a hostel or doing a budget trip you will find lots of options of fruits, nuts and other food to buy and keep in your backpack for the time you're hungry. And be prepared: as Barcelona is a city to be explored by foot you will need energy to walk miles! Leave a Comment Directions: Metro: Liceu, Mercat exit

Boqueria Market by dlandt Despite the position of this market off of Las Ramblas and near the Barri Gotico, I thought this was pretty cool. They had all these cool hams and salamis, fresh fish, or cooked shrimp, all sorts of good stuff. We didn't go through the whole thing, but it was fun. We were sorry to have eaten before we came, as they had a lot of food stalls that seemed to offer really fresh stuff for not that much money. Leave a Comment Directions: Metro: Liceu, Mercat exit

Inside the Mercat Sant Josep by easyoar If you go past the Mercat Sant Josep, make sure you go inside. Even if you are a tourist with no cooking facilites, you will be wanting to buy some of the food in there. Not only does it look incredibly fresh, it is also beautifully laid out. The market is full of local people too, which is always a good indication of something being good! This picture shows the market on the way back out (the entrance can be seen in the background). Mercat Sant Josep by easyoar This is a large indoor market specialising in fresh produce be it fruit and vegetables, fish or meat. Some of the produce is so fresh, it is still alive, The market is in a big hall, and is open from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm. It was built between 1836 and 1840, and has an ornate sign over the doorway which is worth looking up to see. Leave a Comment Directions: Metro: Liceu, Mercat exit

Do look up at the beautiful sign before entering the market. This is a food market with plenty of fresh produce to choose from. Fresh fruit, meat, fish, sweets etc van be bought here. Although many tourists visit the market, it seems that is still a popular place for locals to do shopping. Open 08h00 to 20h30, Mon – Sat No entrance fee Directions: Metro: Liceu, Mercat exit

hard choice by parsix After a long walk trough the city, all those monuments, the museums, and some shoping.... entering La Boqueria feels like going through heavens doors. Fresh fruits, mostly fruits and vegetables. If you are looking for some international typical food or specific ingredients, this is the place where to come. I did with a huge bag of datiles... yummi! by Lorro Visit the Mercat St. Josep, or Boqueria as it is commonly known. There is something for everyone, the casual passerby as well as the cook of the house. You can buy food to stock up your refridgerator, everything from seafood, meats, cheeses, to fruits and vegetables, nuts, and more. Or stop in for a drink or breakfast. There are a few bars inside offering "pintxos" (tapas) and drinks and sandwiches and things. Also at the fruit stands often they sell freshly sqeezed juices and cut up fruits with a fork to eat as you shop. See my Travelogue for more photos! La Boqueria is only a few steps from the Rambla (at the Barri Cino side) and is therefore more visited by the tourists than by the locals but the locals are those who buy at the stalls while the tourists are eating at the rather overprized eating stalls in the Boqueria.
