The Columbus monument (in Spanish - Mirador de Colon) was built in 1888 for the Universal Exibition. You can't see it in my picture, but there is much more detail at the bottom of the statue.

On the picture you can see the Columbus monument. Columbus stands on the top of a tall column pointing out to the sea. And actually he isn't pointing towards America.

walking down las ramblas, you'd arrive to the columbus statute, a very old monument dedicated to Cristobal colom, the one who discovered the american continent in 1492.
