One of the projects most interesting for Barcelona has been opening the city to the sea. The renovation of the Port Vell is a good example. The old Moll d'Espanya (Spain Pier) was completely rebuilt demolishing the ancient Port warehouses. A completely new and impressive Aquarium, a commercial, restoration and leisure centre called Maremagnum and an Imax Cinema (offering films on Imax, Omnimax and 3D versions) were built here after the Olympic Games. Nowadays the Port Vell concentrate the most visited attractions in town.

When you walk down the Ramblas and arrive to the Mediterranean sea you can find the Rambla del Mar and the Maremagnum.
Find a place to sit down and wait: you will see the bridge opens and the boats go out to the sea.
I think this is an experience not to lose in Barcelona!

From the tip of the harbour front, where the Colombus statue stands and where the La Rambla begins, walk on to the cross bridge to Port Vell and its environs. This bridge, with wooden plankings is walked every minute of the day, is swiveled in the mid sections for boats to pass through periodically, during which pedestrians will have to wait 10 minutes or so when the sections reconnect themselves again.

Barcelona, at the eastern coast of Spain, has a long maritime history because of its geographical importance as a seaport of the country. It is still busy today, with added traffic by tour cruises and sail boats dotting the entire harbour.

Talk a walk down Port Vell (Try a daily visit & then go back at night, the experience is great!)
There are many restaurants in this area, so I'd suggest that you have dinner in one rest and then go for a walk along the pier to enjoy the view of the Mediterranean sea at night...

The industrial harbour made place for beaches, shops, offices (World Trade Center) and a yacht harbour. You will find a nice historical museum here, bars (´Luz de Gas´ on boat is nice!) and a great work of art by Roy Lichtenstein.
The Barceloneta area is also renowned for its champaigne bars, where you can have Catalan cava and of course tapas! This area also has a nice beach with a soft kind of sand and when the wind allows it, you can windsurf here. Regular surfing is impossible as the sea is almost waveless.

Go to the Rambla del Mar. You can take a boat to visit the seaport. The boat is called Golondrina, which means swallow.
At the other side of the wooden walkway you will find the Maremagnum. There are a lot of restaurants, shops, cinemas, etc.
