There are numerous black and yellow taxis about the streets of Barcelona. They are available to hire if you can see the green light on the roof. If you spot one you just need to hold your hand out.
With the ease and popularity of the Metro they are of use when the metro is closed or for travelling to/from the airport/bus stations.
*** Warnings ***
- 1) They will happily forget to set their meter back to zero when you get in. You can check by looking at the driver's mirror which has the fare in the bottom left corner.
- 2) They will charge extra (supplemento) for any luggage.
- 3) Make sure you know where you are going on a map and show the driver the place or an address in Catalan, the driver's rarely speak English and we had one that had only been in the job 2 weeks and I knew the way better than he did (He was a pleasant guy from North Africa and we had a good laugh about it though).
Taxi drivers rarely speak english so make sure you know where you are going. the people at our hotel were helpful as we told them where we wanted to go as they spoke english and they booked the taxi for us.
make sure the meter is on zero when you get in as they will try to charge you more. also pay attention to where you are going as they will take you the long routes if the can get away with it.
Taxi’s in Barcelona are easy to identify as they are all painted in a uniform black and yellow. They are run strictly on the meter.
No need to worry about being ripped off as the driver will switch on the meter as a matter of course. Higher rates apply at night. If you get lost walking around it's always a good idea to grab a taxi to a point you know your way from.
In BCN taxis are painted in a distinctive black and yellow colors.
I never used one by day, as the transport system here is excellent.
But to return at night U might have to use them. If you are around the Gothic Quarter or Las Ramblas, the best place to take a taxi is the Placa de Catalunya. You will see long queues there for taxis at 2-3 am. Expect to wait 15-20 minutes for yours!
I noticed there were a lot of taxi cabs driving around. Although public transportation is excellent, a taxi might be more safe.
Just a small addition to this picture is that I was charmed to see that also in Catalunya people expressed their wish for peace.
Taxis in Barcelona are everyone tho theres also specific places for them to wait for passangers like the main train stations,a nd the catalunya square corner with las ramblas etc . Taxis are quite cheap in compare to other european cities. All taxis in Barcelona are black with a diagonal yellow stripe. There are three lights on the taxi - these indicate which tariff you will be paying.

Taxis are plentiful and quite efficient because they share the sme public transtportation lanes reserved for the bus system and thus avoid most of the heavy traffic flow. Barcelona taxis are all the same colour, black and yellow. The cost is reasonable. Make sure that when you start your trip the meter is turned on that you pay whatever it indicates at the endof your journey. You can check the curent fares, posted in view inside the taxi.
Best way is subway but taxis are ok. Just get a younger taxi driver as they arent as rude as the old grouchy men. If you dont speak spanish definately get a young driver as the old men refuse to learn anything new while the youth learn english in school,
Well... nos so expensive as in Mallorca. There are lot of them, black and yellow cabs, comfortable and as quick as they can be in a city so crowded as Barcelona.
For me taxis are not the best choice for travelling around Barcelona. But if you wish to travel in good conditions, you're not in a hurry and don't mind the cost, here they are for you.
