 | Barcelona People to Avoid Reviews | 31 - 40 of 53 | | ARPI La Rambla 40,Barcelona, SPAIN I recently had the unfortunate circumstance of frequenting your premises to purchase a memory card for my Nikon Coolpix 7600 camera. I have to say, the person who served me, I assume the proprietor, was rude and aggressive to the point of ignorant. This person has no knowledge of memory cards and their compatibility with cameras, he also has no professionalism or care for his customers. Having sold me a Panasonic 6 gigabyte HC memory card which would not work in my camera, his response was ‘IT IS NOT MY PROBLEM - IT IS YOUR PROBLEM - IT IS YOUR CAMERA. A visit to a further outlet, confirmed the card should have been an AC memory card of no more than 2 gigabyte. Obviously, his purpose is to make profit, from visitors to Barcelona with the knowledge they will soon be gone. Leave a Comment Phone: +34 933 017 404Website: declined to show

Around some of the main squares and plaza's, you will notice a few drunks, drug addicts and general troublemakers. Some of them will notice that you are a tourist, and will therefore take it upon himself to stumble over and (i think) ask for money. They seem not to realise that most tourists can't speak Catalan, so don't have a clue what they're saying. I just ignored them and kept on walking, at which point they usually lost interest in me. At the risk of stating the obvious, the people playing variations of three card monty or find the ball under the boxes on La Rambla are CON ARTISTS! The dealer is surrounded by a couple of shills (who might dress like tourists and may even be carrying luggage) who'll play a few games, appearing to win big time before dragging unsuspecting and gullible onlookers into putting down a 20 or 50 on a sure bet. Obviously if you do this you will lose so don't do it. Walk away or keep a safe distance and watch the rubes be taken. It is a wonder that the police don't arrest these scammers since what they are doing is clearly criminal. By night, another set of charlatans comes out - FORTUNE TELLERS and TAROT READERS. One has to wonder why these seers with their amazing powers spend their nights sitting on La Rambla instead of making a fortune in the nearby casino.

Barcelona has a real problem at the moment with petty theft. The majority of my friends and family who have visited have had some experience. This has been by stealth and by direct grabbing. Perhaps the most popular approach is to divert your attention in some way while someone else grabs your bag. Keep bags in sight, and on your arm. Keep your money in your front pocket. You have been warned! And if it goes wrong.. the tourist police are on Calle Nou de La Rambla - walk down Las Ramblas past the Placa Real, turn right towards the Palau Guell, and keep going about 400 meters. Barcelona is full of scam artists and potential thieves/pickpockets. These people are generally easy to spot and shouldn't worry you if you are not a complete mug. I've heard tales about old folk having their bags robbed by distract and run artists but saw nothing like that myself. It's good fun watching morons fall for the "pea game" (find the ladyscam variation) and dodging the romany flower pushers. Leave a Comment

Hmm, kinda embarassing this one. In Barcelona, as with many other major cities, you see a fair share of 'ladies of the night.' Usually these 'professionals' can be spotted a mile off, but that wasn't so during the cold, winter month of November. We were taking a late night stroll along Las Ramblas, sampling the atmosphere, and I was lagging behind looking up at the lights. Now apparantly it was obvious to everyone else, but me being naive, innocent young man that I am, was completely oblivious to what was going on. An attractive, respectively dressed woman was stood in the street and as passed her, she struck up a conversation: "Hello, how are you?" What a lovely lady I thought, and in kind responded by saying "very well thank you." "Where are you from?" "England." "Would you like sex?" "Oh... I see... No thank you. Have a good night." So just be careful. ;) Leave a Comment

I nearly got mugged getting on the Metro at Sants Estacio. Just keep an eye on dodgy looking characters on the platform - especially if they get on the train with you! Leave a Comment

Pickpocketing. Beware it. Assume someone's always casing you, because someone always is. keep your purses zipped shut and in front of you. Keep your wallet in a place you can check constantly such as a front pocket. Chains are a good idea as well. NEVER leave anything unattended unless you WANT it to disappear forever. Oh, and guys: do an Adam's Apple check on that beauty you just met. Barcelona IS the transvestite capital of Europe. Leave a Comment
